Awesome ski! Take the oil injection out and make it premix and you have by far the best Yamaha motor made for jet skis, the famous 701. It will be a 701 61x single carb motor. Once you get bored of using it in this ski you can take it out and throw it in a superjet, as this is what most people run in theirs. Def recommend it, a lot of fun and bulletproof.
In terms of price depends on where you live. If the trailer is real nice thats like $3-400. Then the ski itself I personally try and pay $400-500 because I try and make a profit off of parts. You could probably pay more if you were keeping it, but I would try and not spend too much. To give you an idea though, the motor alone prob goes for $300-400. Electronics are like $100-150. You can sell the flywheel, and stator. The waterbox is actually desirable surprisingly. And then you have the start stop switch and of course the carb if you were to not sell it with the motor. All of these parts are easy to sell because a superjet uses all of these parts. So figure you could probably by it all for $1000 and part it out and either make your money back or make a very small profit. Keep in mind I haven't done this in awhile so my memory on prices are kinda just estimates. Great ski though

Yamaha VXR With a bit done Estimate Speed
Hello everyone just wonderinmg everyones opinions On an approximate speed for my setup. I have a 1991 Yamaha VXR With a swapped out 701 61X With Protec CDI Unit with adjustable rev limiter up to 10000rpm and Protec Ride plate Anybody have an estimated guess on how fast it should go and What would be the highest RPM I can run Safely By the way the motor has 12 hours on it

Re: Yamaha VXR With a bit done Estimate Speed
I would bring the rev limiter down to around 8K. If you unloiad the pump, and run up to 10K, there's a risk of throwing the crank.

You might get 42 or 43 out of it now. The cdi improves speed/acceleration in chop, but won't do much to help top speed. You've gotta do a lot more to a VXR hull, besides dropping in a 61x motor, to get 50mph out of it.

Yeah that hull is not going to hook up very well. It'll probably just want to come out of the water on you limiting your speed. So I wouldn't expect a huge difference in top speed.

Re: Yamaha VXR With a bit done Estimate Speed
Yep, in fact, years ago I bought a mint 650 VXR simply to use the motor as a donor for a WR3. I ran the VXR one time, just to test it, and was barely able to get 38mph on my gps. That very same motor pulled 1mph MORE in the larger and heavier WR3 hull. Not that the WR3 is some kind of speed demon hull, but it showed just how limiting the VXR hull can be. That smooth VXR hull is best suited for spin-outs. If top speed is your goal, and you want it fairly cheaply, drop that 701 motor into an old Raider hull. You'll probably gain 3-5mph right off the bat.

I wasn't far off now was I ?? I've got a WR3 with a 701 in it, with pro-tec ride plate and intake grate, solas prop (not sure what pitch, was on there when I got it) and mine barely does 40.beat up 1991 Waverunner III but it runs and floats
