The 1JZ engine is a part of Toyota’s JZ engine family of inline-6 car engines. The family was meant as a replacement for the M-series engines, and they were 24-valve DOHC engines. It came in 2.5 and 3.0 litre versions, but the 1JZ is the smaller option. It was produced from 1990 to 2007, and it has two belt-driven camshafts. The 1JZ-GTE engine has two CT12A turbochargers that are set up in parallel, and blow through an either side-mount, or front mount intercooler. It produces 276 horsepower, and was smooth and fast. The third generation, introduced in 1996 came with Toyota’s BEAMS architecture that reworked some pieces of the engine and changed the twin-turbo setup into a single, CT15B turbo setup. The 1JZ engine for sale is commonly found in the very popular Toyota Supra MK III, as well as other models such as the Chaser, Verossa, Soarer, Crown Athlete V and Mark II Blit. Additional Information
How much HP can a 1JZ handle?A general rule of thumb is that the 1JZ stock bottom end is good for about 650-700 horsepower, and the stock 2JZ bottom end is good for about 800 horsepower.
How much HP does a 1JZ make? The direct injection version of the 1JZ generates 147 kW (200 PS; 197 hp) and 250 N⋅m (184 lb⋅ft) – virtually the same as the conventional VVT-i 1JZ-GE. The 1JZ-FSE is always used with an automatic transmission.
What cars can you put a 1JZ engine in?Cars powered by the 1JZ GTE are the Toyota Chaser / Cressida (JZX81, JZX90, JZX100, JZX110), Toyota Soarer (JZZ30), Toyota Supra Mk III (JZA70, but only in Australia and Japan), Toyota Verossa, Toyota Crown (JZS170), Toyota Mark II.
Is 1JZ or 2JZ better?Tuning Potential
Both engines are capable and can handle a ton of power. In terms of tuning potential, 1JZ with stock internals is good for about 650-700 hp, and stock 2JZ can hold well up to 800 hp. If you're talking about strength, the result may not be what you're expecting.
