Mar 13, 2016 (Edited) Does anyone have the wiring diagram (specifically speakers) and layout of what the plugs are behind the head unit?? I am trying to track down where to find the rear two speakers in the pillars wiring path. I have the normal audio. However there are the plugs in the pillars
for the addition of the two speakers but upon plugging in the OEM 3.5 speakers there is no sound.. Trying to find out where they might be disconnected to connect them.. Joined

I had a quick look but didn't want to disconnect the 8.4 unit. You need to remove the manual knob panel first using torx, then the Uconnect unit will slowly come down towards the vacant space. I didn't get the chance to see if there was a center channel speaker outlet. I wasn't putting in a main wire harness for rear speakers and sub, but had
the basic speaker replacement not have been as successful I would have gone down that road. Uconnect and Jeep are less than helpful in giving you any specifics on the unit. For me, just finishing my dash speaker replacement, which was a major PITA and the relatively easy door speaker replacement, all was perfect. I had no pictures, no diagrams and I search pretty deep all over Jeep sites and you tube. My advice is go easy. Even removing the negative lead on the battery is a PITA
I chose to not deal with. It was a risk, but all came out well. Just go slow and expect the unexpected. GL! What shall we have? An '82 Margaux! Is it any good? Good....?, It will make you believe in God! Joined

Mar 14, 2016 This you tube video helps with removing the head unit but without knowing what I am looking for doesn't really help. //www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUnkPG2Sg8E What I am hoping for is tracking back the wires from the pillars in the back to find
them simply unplugged somewhere. Highly unlikely I know but hey it gives me something to work on! Joined

From the wiring diagram on the non premium audio there are no outgoing sources to the rear tweets, however it may still be prewired. And there is also an option for surround mode in audio settings, but im assuming thats only on the amplified premium setup. I dont think it will be as simple as trying to connect it, as there is no amplifier in
your setup, the only thing that I can see working is hoping that you can track down where the wires lead from and maybe install a crossover linked to one of the current signals being sent to the front tweets or rears, or adding a decent amplifer altogether. For the Non Premium Audio 2015 models the wiring for speakers are, Left Front Door and dash Right Front Door and dash Left Rear Speaker Right Rear Speaker The Premium Audio Wiring for the rear tweets Left Rear Tweet When I installed my sub with premium audio, I simply
added a Line out converter, the location is under the passenger side in the dash area, i tap'd into the wiring undernearth the floor trim "Easily Accessible", if ur lucky u may find the wire for the rear tweet there without trying to pull your dash apart. What I would do is look into buying an amp, gives you the option to add a sub in the future, and have the amp power the rears and sub and leave the head unit for the fronts.

Mar 15, 2016 Thanks @Hellcat ! Being just 1 inch tweeters I probably won't spend too much time on it then. I was hoping it would be nice and easy plug n play. I will take the door apart just to see if it is simply
unplugged there as Crutchfield told me it runs from the rear door speakers. That is worth the 10 minutes to do. Joined

The wiring site is down, not sure if they've now banned public access for good or what... BUT to answer your question, the 9-speaker setup drives each channel directly from the HU. Crutchfield guy is wrong. You may have the wires, but not the amp to drive them. On my car I didn't even have the wires.

Thanks @flaco Guess I will consider this case closed and move onto something else. Not worth putting any real effort in just for those two speakers.

The wires for the rear pillar speakers and the center dash speaker would plug into the external amp. If you know the location for the external amp, the ends of these wires may be in that area, just not connected to anything. If these new radios are like the MyGigs, they will have a 4-channel amp built into the unit for the 6 speaker system. The
MyGigs were 16.5w/channel for a grand total of 66w. Since all of the HU are the same, either with or w/o the external amp, when the external amp is added, as soon as the radio is turned on, a signal is sent to the external amp to come on. Once the external amp is activated, it sends a signal back to the HU letting it know that the external amp is present, which reduces the outputs from the HU to pre-amp levels.

The rear pillar speakers
run from the amp under the glove box to the back. They will only work with the external amp supplied with the 9 speaker system set up through alpine. The amp is not there for 6 speaker set up you can run new speaker wire and tap into the rear door speakers via the same color wire that matches the plug wire or cut the plug wire that's dead and match them up. If you buy the Alpine amp it requires reprogramming from the dealer to get it to work with the non alpine head unit.

Are you suggesting that for non 9-speaker people the wiring is already in place, we just don't have the right head-unit to connect it to? Just curious in case I want to just tap the line closer to the head-unit instead of running wire from the rear doors to the rear pillars.
