2022 mazda 3 windshield replacement cost

Within the first week of owning my polymetal gray 2021 mazda 3 Premium (w/ red interior) I got hit by a rock on the edge of the windshield which gave me a nice 6 inch crack.

After speaking with my insurance agency and various glas shops, no one is willing to replace this windshield due to the safety features.

Has anyone else encountered this kind of situation? I don't believe there is a safety concern, I just don't want a crack in my brand new windshield.

I work for a Mazda dealership and I've not heard of this. There is no reason why a glass shop cannot install the windshield

level 2

I suppose the guy said he could do the glass, but his calibration equipment doesn't work on this car. Could I take it to a dealer to calibrate once he installs it?

level 1

If you find a place that’ll do it make sure you get the oem glass and not the cheaper option. Just call your local dealership I’m sure they’ll do it and if they don’t they will tell you a place that will do it

level 2

Yeah, the guy i spoke to was adamant that I got oem installed. Now I need to convince my insurance that that's the case.

I vaguely remember seeing another post about this. If I remember correctly it's because of the built-in camera/sensor mounted in the mirror assembly housing, which is contoured with the windshield. A certified Mazda repair shop or dealership would have to do the installation if the entire windshield is being swapped out. It's not a job some random Safelite tech or independent shop can do. I don't know for sure, but I honestly wouldn't be surprised if some calibration process is needed after the new windshield is installed.

level 2

I think the problem is if they fuck it up then it needs to be recalibrated i believe that’s why most shop do not want to do it.

level 2

You're pretty much spot on, its the calibration process that makes it a definite OEM replacement. I dont know if its just the gen 4, but both paint/glass are very prone to cracks and chips.

level 1

That's interesting and good to know. I have an '08 and I have the lights/wiper sensor on mine and so far it hasn't been an issue to rehook, but that's not something that needs to be recalibrated. I've probably had my windshield replaced 8 times in 12 years by now lol.

A windscreen cannot have a chip larger than 1 cm in the driver’s line of sight to pass the MOT.

Regardless of the position, a chip or crack larger than 4 cm on the windscreen will almost certainly result in a failed MOT.

Many modern cars are equipped with a rain sensor, which automatically activates the wipers when it detects water on the windscreen. If you are unsure if you have one, do not worry!

When you select the make and model on our website form, we'll ask you about a rain sensor if applicable to your windscreen. We'll also provide an illustrative guide that helps you determine if you are still unsure.

We offer a two-year warranty on all car glass replacements. Just let us know if anything hasn’t gone the way you wanted with the car glass installation, and we’ll come out to repair or replace it as soon as possible.

Our technicians typically need one hour (or less) to complete the car glass replacement. For more complex replacement, the technician needs a longer time to, for instance, calibrate the ADAS systems.

Please note that the car MUST be left stationary for at least 30 minutes after the glass replacement. This "dry-up" period involves replacements where an adhesive has been used, which is the case for windscreens, back windows and fixed side windows.

We never leave the location until everything is fixed and ready.

Temperature changes are the most common reason for windscreen cracks spreading. A contaminated windscreen crack or stone chip (one filled with liquid) will likely spread due to the temperature changes mentioned above.

Cracks can also spread from vibrations from car bumps along rough roads. Any pressure on the inside of the windscreen, especially near the damage, will also cause it to spread.

Always place a seethrough sticker or tape over the damaged area to keep the area dry and clean until you can get it repaired or replaced. Doing this will increase the probability of a successful windscreen repair.

Finally, If you have any damage to your windscreen, it’s important to get a windscreen repair as soon as possible.

The windscreen replacement cost depends on different attributes of your current glass. Additional factors such as colour tone, heated glass, rain sensor, front camera, lane assist, and the heads-up display will ultimately increase the price.

Please fill out all the details and answer any additional questions related to your model to find the exact replacement price.

How much does it cost to replace a windshield?

You might pay $250 to $400 to replace a windshield. The amount varies by location, windshield replacement service, and the type of damage. Price differences also occur due to a vehicle's make, model, or year. If you drive a collector's car or luxury model, the cost may be higher.

Is it better to replace or repair a cracked windshield?

Whether or not you should replace your windshield typically boils down to the size of your windshield, the type of glass and the size of the crack, according to Glass.com. It's usually a good idea to replace your windshield when: The glass is tempered, not laminated. The crack is longer than a dollar bill.

How often should you replace your windshield?

Those who drive frequently can expect windshields to wear out in less than five years. Those that see little to no use will obviously maintain their glass longer.
