Sep 13, 2020 Looking through the forum, it seems like the vast majority of posts are people running 30-31 inch tire/wheels, even after lifting and making minor fender liner mods. Seems like a lot of work to only get 3/4 of an inch absolute ground clearance over stock trailhawks. Has anyone successfully run 33s? Or does doing so require
significant fender modifications? Joined

From all I have read here, 31's appear to be about the max. Clearance would be the main issue, but weight, driveability and drive train stress would contribute. If you want taller tires then you should probably trade in for something more suitable. As you note, you can't gain much more clearance on the TH (assuming you are asking about the TH) which is why I
am only going slightly wider and taller when I buy tires. Just not worth all the trade off's to go much bigger for me. Joined

Me and quite a few others run 32's... Haven't seen any with 33s yet.

From all I have read here, 31's appear to be about the max. What? 32s are very common. Beyond some minor trimming of the wheelwell pinch welds, they fit without much further effort. Not a great fit, but they work fine. I just ditched the 32s and downsized to 31s for a more comfortable fit (and
looks way more appropriate) but that's personal preference. I agree though that this is not the right vehicle for somebody who wants to push tire size to the absolute limit. The Cherokee by its nature has very limited modification potential (at least in any practical sense). Once it's maxed out, best to either live with it or choose a different platform. Unless the person is very innovative and motivated to make the next breakthrough. via tapatalk : 2014 V6 Trailhawk

The largest done is 34.5" but that requires all the trimming the Expo front bumper and custom rear suspension with subframe drop. So its 32s unless you want a **** load of work

Krawler Special Edition (only one made) was designed for 33s : Hello everyone! I just bought a Jeep Krawler. The vehicle is actually that same prototype showcar that was created by Jeep and specially created
Mopar parts for the 2015 Dubai and Frankfurt Motorshow. The base vehicle was the 3.2 V6 Trailhawk but has been radically modified to accomodate the BF... www.jeepcherokeeclub.com (go to message #7 for the 255/80/17s.) Don't try this at home Krawler One Off Showcar Prototype

Wrt 33" tires being a prerequisite to running some trails, it depends on the trail and the driver skill. I've been successful on such trails with only 245/75r17 Wildpeaks. Noteablely, Shoshone Lake trail in WY, Grizzly Lake trail in CO, and Steelbender in UT without winch assist to name a few.
@edge600 also had 33" tires on his KL before it was totalled. It required lots of lift and wheel well modifications. The biggest risk to clearance is the engine skid plate which protects the oil pan, being the lowest hanging fruit. The next is the front and rear LCAs. Only bigger tires will help there. A higher lift will only stress out
the drive train, steering and suspension components. The 3rd risk is brakeover angle, which can be protected with rock sliders. The 4th is approach (and departure) angles. Improvements to the bumpers to remove the plastic and replace it the steel or eliminate will help there.
