You might already know it as the thumbnail-sized cell you use to replace a dead watch battery. They’re easy to find at any Reading hardware store, from various manufacturers including Panasonic, Sony, Energizer, Maxell, and Duracell.

However, we recommend checking your user manual to find out which battery is the original equipment used by the manufacturer.   • Replace the battery — With the top half removed, you should see the battery. Carefully pry it out with your screwdriver, taking care not to scratch the components. Push in the new battery with the positive side facing up.
  • Reassemble the fob —Line up the front half and the rear cover of the key fob and gently push them together, making sure they’re flush at every edge. Push the metal ignition key back into the slot until it clicks securely in place.
