Best oil for high mileage ram 1500

I know there are several posts about the best oil to use already, but I'm do for the first oil change since I bought my 2004 1500 and was wondering about specifically high mileage oil.

The sticker in the windshield says S10w30 was used for the last change, but doesn't specify any further.

You want to use 5W/30. I've been running Amsoil Signature and filters in my 2004 2500 since day one, and am over 200,000 miles right now. BTW, I change my oil once a year, whether it needs it or not (25,000 miles).

137,000 on mine. Pennzoil Hi-Mileage 5W-30 here. Changed every 6,000 miles (which takes about 16 months anymore).

I have been using AMSOIL 5W20XL in my 07' Quad Cab 1500 truck since I purchased her in 2013. I deactivated the MDS on my truck about 2 years ago thru my SuperChips tuner. I plan to try using AMSOIL 5W30XL for my next oil change.

Not trying to thread jack but didn’t want to make another thread for similar question, What’s the suggested length to change oil if your not exceeding the mileage? I’m coming up on 11 months since I did last oil change but only put about 3100 miles.

I'm in the same category since I don't drive much in the winter. I change mine pretty much in March and September if I haven't taken the engine apart in the meantime. I try not to start mine unless I do a full warmup. Don't count this as fact but somewhere over the years I read that it takes a warmed up engine 20 minutes to dry the oil of condensation. Probably the same source that wrote overhead valve engines were too complicated and would never come to anything. This was Hot Rod magizine's evaluation of chevy's v8 when it first came out in 55'..

I change mine every 2500 miles or 3 months as mine builds up fuel smell a little over time.

AMSOIL recommends that my Synthetic XL oil be replaced at least once per year. I have my truck set to change oil & filter every 5,000 miles, or once per year whichever comes first.

You should check with the manufacturer of the oil you use, and follow their recommendation. Your owners manual will also indicate when oil should be replaced, I always go by their schedule "B" use, but because I use only synthetic engine oil, I replace mine at 5,000 miles instead of 3,000 miles. Synthetic has a recommended change at 7,500 miles usually.
