Briggs and stratton dual 200 amp automatic transfer switch

Automatic Transfer Switches

This device stands guard and senses when utility power flowing to your home is interrupted, then automatically turns on your Briggs & Stratton standby generator.

Transfer switches come in five sizes. Your home's electrical service will determine the size you need.

Unsure of your home's amp service? Check these locations in your home:

Electrical Panel

  • Locate the panel on a wall near your furnace or water heater, or where utility power enters your home.
  • Inspect your electrical panel for label that indicates its amperage rating.

Main Breaker

  • Find your main breaker — it's the largest breaker in your electrical panel.
  • Look for the capacity written on it or adjacent to it.

Power Management

Make your backup power go further with a power management system. It prioritizes power for what you really need, reduces fuel costs and allows you to use a smaller-size generator to power your home.

With a Briggs & Stratton generator, you have two power management systems to choose from:

Duel Low Voltage Module:

  • Compatible with the Amplify transfer switch bundle; controls any two thermostatically-controlled appliances (like two AC units).
  • Can be installed inside your home and does not require any additional wiring.

High Voltage Module:

  • Compatible with Amplify transfer switch bundle; allows for flexible placement and simple installation.

Low Voltage Module

  • Manages the power flowing to your home’s high-wattage appliances
  • Can be installed inside of your home and does not require any additional wiring.
  • Backed by a three-year limited warranty1.

50 Amp Module

  • Manages generator output with any 120- or 240-volt home appliances, like your stove, oven and electric heat.
  • Can be installed inside of your home and does not require any additional wiring.
  • Backed by a three-year limited warranty1.

Low Voltage Dual Module

  • Controls any two thermostatically-controlled appliances, like two AC units.
  • Can be installed inside of your home and does not require any additional wiring.
  • Backed by a three-year limited warranty1.

Generator Monitoring Systems

Finally, there’s no need to run outside to check on your home generator when a storm is looming. Briggs & Stratton monitoring systems are popular generator accessories that make it more convenient than ever to stay on top of your generator’s current status without ever leaving the comfort of your living room.

Cold Weather Accessories

Keep your Briggs & Stratton generator ready to perform like normal even when the temperature dips below 30°F outside. Your dealer can suggest the best generator cold weather kit for your system when your generator is installed. Learn more about the available options below.

Home Generator Cold Weather Kits

As the temperature goes down, the thermostat-controlled battery warmer and oil heater begin to protect your home standby generator from freezing.

  • Kit includes a battery warmer for your home standby generator and two oil heaters.
  • Available for select Briggs & Stratton home generator models from 10kW to 25kW3.

240-Volt Internal Battery Warmer

The internal battery warmer helps keep your engine at an ideal temperature for starting. Thermostatically controlled, it turns on when the temperature reaches 30°F.

  • Designed for 10kW to 20kW³ Briggs & Stratton generators.

Engine Block Heater

This heater helps keep larger standby generator engines warm, making it easier for them to start in temperatures as low as -20°F.

  • Kit includes an engine block heater and bracket.
  • Available for 25kW, 35kW and 48kW3 Briggs & Stratton generators.

240-Volt Internal Engine Oil Warmer

An engine oil warmer helps keep your engine at an ideal temperature for starting. Thermostatically controlled, it turns on when the temperature reaches 30°F.

  • Designed for 10kW to 20kW³ Briggs & Stratton generators.

³This generator is rated in accordance with Underwriters Laboratories 2200 (stationary engine generator assemblies) and Canadian Standards Association standard C22.2 No.100-14 (motors and generators).

Will a Generac transfer switch work with a Briggs and Stratton generator?

Unfortunately you have two pieces of electrical equipment that are not compatible with each other. So either install a new Briggs ATS or a new Generac generator.

How does a dual power automatic transfer switch work?

Once installed, they can automatically switch between electricity coming from your utility and generator power. When the transfer switch detects a power outage, it switches your home to generator power. Afterward, it detects when the power is restored and switches your home back to utility power.

How long does an automatic transfer switch last?

An automatic transfer switch typically lasts at least 20 to 25 years. Relays and contacts in the transfer switch can fail sooner in some situations. Cleaning and maintaining the automatic transfer switch regularly will help it last longer.
