Can i put a blanket in my bearded dragon tank

I have been noticing a lot of pictures goin around of Beardies wrap in blankets for cuddling or for hanging out outside of the cage for “staying warm”.

Well I hate to be the to tell people this but blankets actually do NOT keep lizards warm, in-fact they actually make the lizard colder. The reason being is that lizards are cold blooded. The only reason blankets make us warmer is because our bodies produce heat which is then trapped under the blanket and warming us.

When doing this with a cold blooded animal you are actually insulating it from the rooms temperature and technically cooling them by a couple degrees, because they do not produce heat themselves. Kind of like how a houses insulation keeps the winter air outside of your house fairly well even without heat on.

Now I’m not criticizing you if you think it make a a cute photo real quick, just drying them off after a bath, or even just letting them out to run around a bit that’s fine. Just when taking them out for a long time in a room that is relatively cool it’s best to get a hand warmer in the blanket or warm up some rice in a sock.

✅ Fact-Checked

Yes, you can cover your bearded dragon tank with a blanket. Bearded dragons are ectothermic, meaning they rely on the sun to heat up their body. So, a blanket can help the bearded dragon stay warm.

1 Introduction

A bearded dragon’s natural environment is a hot, dry, and sunny environment. To keep your bearded dragon comfortable, you can cover its tank with a blanket to create a similar environment.

2 Can I Put a Towel on My Bearded Dragon Tank

Bearded dragons need a place to hide and feel secure. They also need a place with higher humidity to help keep them hydrated and promote normal shedding. Putting a towel on the tank will not help the dragon, as UVB light will not penetrate the glass. A towel can make the tank damp, which is not good for the dragon. Instead, change the towel daily and put some peat moss or a damp paper towel in the tank to help keep it humid.

3 Why Do Bearded Dragons Like Soft Blankets

A beardie will like a soft blanket because it will make them feel warm. If a beardie is cold, they will have to bask in the sun to feel warm. So many beardie enthusiasts think that supplying their pets with a soft blanket will provide them with warmth.

4 Can I Put a Blanket Over My Lizard Tank

  1. Bearded dragons need plenty of UVB exposure to produce healthy scales and a strong immune system.

  2. Putting a blanket over a lizard tank can make the tank colder, not warmer.

  3. Bearded dragons need a lot of space to move around and get enough UVB exposure.

  4. Covering a lizard with a blanket can make it too warm and cause problems with the dragon’s health.

  5. Bearded dragons need a lot of space to move around and get enough UVB exposure.

  6. Bearded dragons need plenty of space to move around and get enough UVB exposure.

  7. Bearded dragons need plenty of space to move around and get enough UVB exposure.

8. Bearded dragons need plenty of space to move around and get enough UVB exposure.

5 How Can I Keep My Bearded Dragon Tank Warm

When it comes to keeping your bearded dragon warm, there are a few different ways to go about it. One option is to use a ceramic heat emitting bulb, which will help to keep the tank warmer overall. However, if the tank temperature is only slightly lower, don’t get a high wattage CHE. They get hot and will increase the temperature dramatically. Instead, get a maximum 20-40 watt nano CHE like this to slightly increase basking temperatures.

Another option is to use a heating pad. Heating pads work by using heat energy to keep the animal warm. They can be placed on the ground or on a stand, and can be turned on and off as needed. Heating pads can be expensive, and are not always necessary, depending on the temperature outside the tank.

The final option is to keep the tank at a constant temperature. This can be done by using a thermostat, which will set the temperature at a certain level and not allow it to drop below that level. A thermostat can be expensive, and may not be necessary if the tank is kept at a constant temperature by using one of the other methods.

6 What Kind of Bedding Can You Use for Bearded Dragons

Bearded dragons are lizards that require a reptile-specific bedding such as newspaper, butcher paper, or other recycled paper products. These beddings are easy to replace and are non-toxic if ingested. Paper-based bedding should be removed in small amounts daily, as the cage is spot-cleaned, and should be removed completely once a week.

7 How Often Should You Clean a Bearded Dragon Tank

  1. Clean the vivarium at least once a day.

  2. If the vivarium is dirty, use a damp cloth to clean the surfaces.

  3. Use a water dish to moisten the vivarium.

  4. Mist the vivarium with water to keep the humidity high.

  5. Clean the bearded dragon’s food and water dishes regularly.

  6. Clean the bearded dragon’s hide regularly.

  7. Change the water and food regularly to keep the bearded dragon hydrated and fed.

8 How Do I Know if My Bearded Dragon Is Hydrated

  1. Bearded dragons need plenty of water to drink and stay hydrated.

  2. Bearded dragons should have a moist basking area so they can absorb water.

  3. Bearded dragons should be pinched to see if they are dehydrated. If the skin takes a long time to bounce back then dehydration is likely.

  4. Bearded dragons should be fed a high-quality diet that includes water.

  5. Bearded dragons need to be kept in a warm environment with a humidity level of 50%.

  6. Bearded dragons need a UVB light to help them heal their skin.

  7. Bearded dragons should be checked for infections and treated as necessary.

9 How Often Feed Bearded Dragons

  1. Bearded dragons should be fed three times a day and given as many insects as they will consume in 10 to 15 minutes.

  2. After the feeding time is done, it is best to remove as many remaining insects as possible.

  3. A juvenile can eat 20 to 50 insects each day.

  4. Bearded dragons need a lot of protein in their diet to grow, so insects are a good option.

  5. Insects are a good source of protein for bearded dragons.

10 How Long Can a Bearded Dragon Go Without Eating

Bearded dragons are interesting creatures. They can go for up to three months without eating. This is a long time for a creature like that, so it is important that they get their food. If they do not get food, they will die. Juveniles might not be able to last that long, since they do not have as much fat in their reserves.

If you want to cover your bearded dragon tank with a blanket, be sure to read the instructions below first. If you don’t follow the instructions, your bearded dragon could get sick.

How can I keep my bearded dragon tank warm at night?

The best nighttime heat source for a Bearded dragon is a ceramic heat emitter, as this emits no light and can be thermostatically controlled to maintain a set temperature that should still be lower than during the day.

Can I put a towel in my bearded dragon tank?

UVB light will not penetrate glass. Bearded dragons need a spot to hide to feel secure, and to provide an area with higher humidity to maintain hydration and promote normal shedding. We recommend peat moss or a damp paper towel changed daily. The tank should never be damp.

What can bearded dragons use for bedding?

Things like newspaper or paper towels, reptile carpet, rubber shelf liner, tile or even bioactive substrate are all excellent choices when it comes to bearded dragon substrate.
