The materials we offer are natural granite tiles for floors. Additionally, these are one hundred percent (100%) raw, natural stones from mountain quarries from various parts of the globe.

They are different from ceramic tiles produced by “Mariwasa” and many other brands sold in many home improvement stores. Hence, comparing natural granite tiles and ceramic tiles is unwise as these are two completely different products.

The topmost surface of each granite tile is polished. This finish is typical for most indoor applications here in the Philippines.

Should you need the granite tiles as pavers or pool coping, we recommend having a textured finish. The latter is done by flaming or bush-hammering the stone’s surface to prevent accidental slips.

A house built on granite and strong foundations, not even the onslaught of pouring rain, gushing torrents and strong winds will be able to pull down.

Like every of our stone slabs, the thickness of each granite tile is 18 mm. on average. The dimension, however, varies depending on the availability of the slabs. At present, we cut our slabs into tiles in the following sizes:

3. 800 mm. x 800 mm.

What are the different surface finishes for granite tiles?

Surface finishing alters the stone’s natural appearance. The kind of treatment used on a slab dictates its final color, texture, durability, and porosity. The array of available finishes allows us to use granite or marble in various applications, including countertop, flooring, or wall cladding.

Here are the most commonly used surface finishes for granite tiles:

a. Polished Finish

• A polished finish is the smoothest and most reflective of all types of surface treatments for stones;
• It brings out the full color and highlights the character of the material;
• It is done by grinding the cut face with successively finer grades of abrasive;
• Also, it is the least porous of all finishes available;
• The polished finish is deal for indoor applications, like kitchen countertops, vanity tops, entrances, and lobbies.

b. Honed Finish

• A smooth satin finish minus the gloss;
• The honed finish has the same durability as a traditional polished finish but requires more frequent resealing;
• However, it is highly susceptible to fingerprints and watermarks, which are quickly noticeable to the naked eye;
• Ultimately, it is the preferred granite tile finish for floors, stairs, and other locations where the presence of water might make a polished finish too slippery.

c. Flamed Finish

• The flamed finish is a deeply textured surface ideal for outdoor applications where slip resistance is required;
• It is produced by applying a high-pressure flame over the stone, resulting in an exfoliated texture;
• Highly-porous;
• It requires sealing to maintain the stone’s original color and appearance over time;
• It’s a surface finish applicable only on granite stones.

d. Bush-hammered Finish

• A deeply textured surface ideal for outdoor applications where slip resistance is required;
• The bush-hammered finish creates a consistent texture across the granite tiles’ surface;
• It is produced by the repeated impact of a multi-pointed pneumatic steel tool on the stone’s surface;
• Also, it requires regular sealing to maintain the granite tile’s original color and appearance over time.

Apart from sealing, simple sweeping and occasional mopping should be enough to keep your stones in pristine condition.

Unlike granite tiles, ceramic or porcelain tiles come in smaller dimensions. This makes seams more prominent when installed, which requires more professional cleaning in the long run.

How to install granite tiles?

If you are not familiar with any of the tools or procedures below, it is best to leave the installation of your granite tiles to an experienced contractor instead.

By giving this task to a skilled professional, you are assured of your project’s workmanship quality. Not only will it save you a significant amount of time, but it will also help you prevent unnecessary expenses from a faulty installation using D.I.Y. skills.

Steps to install granite tiles:

Step 1: Prepare the subfloor

First, ensure that the area is clean. Remove any items on the floor, such as old tiles, paint cans, and other construction debris.

Secure that the floor is level before you begin work. This way, we can prevent any tile “lippage” (variation of height between adjoining tiles) during installation.

Step 2: Layout the granite tiles

You must work with a plan before installing your granite tiles permanently.

Start by laying down the tiles starting from the corner.

Next, use plastic spacers to see how your granite tiles will fit into space.

Get the granite tiles’ measurements that need to be cut, especially those along the floor perimeter. Use a diamond blade in cutting these pieces.

Step 3: Apply the mortar

Mix the mortar by following the instructions written on the bag. Continue mixing until you achieve a thin, mud-like consistency.

Spread out a thin layer of mortar evenly with a trowel at a 45-degree angle to the surface. The resulting texture should keep the grooves and notches at a consistent depth and level.

Step 4: Install the granite tiles one by one

Start laying out the granite tiles according to your plan. Place one tile and press down firmly along its corners.

Twist the granite tile a little. This should help the mortar get a good grip on the tile.

Using a rubber mallet, tap the granite tile lightly to remove the air pockets underneath.

Place the spacers between each piece and repeat the whole installation process until all granite tiles are set. Wait for 24 hours for the mixture to cure.

Step 5: Fill the spaces between the granite tiles with grout

Mix a small amount of grout according to the instructions given. Starting from a small area, begin spreading it over the spaces between your tiles.

Next, force the grout into the gaps using a sponge while removing the spacers.

Let the grout cure for 72 hours. Afterward, clean it up with a sponge and warm water.

Finally, once dried, apply a grout sealer to protect it from staining.

How to keep your granite tiles looking good as new?

• First, sweep off your floor daily (or as needed) to prevent dust and dirt from accumulating, especially along the grout lines. If you are using a vacuum, ensure that the attachment you are using will not scratch your stone.
• If your floor is still not clean after sweeping, apply a specially formulated stone cleaner using a soft cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, bleach, and other acidic chemicals on your granite tiles.
• Should any spill or drip occur, wipe it off immediately using a dry cloth. This should help you prevent any stains from ruining your stone’s surface.
• For deep stains, apply a mixture of baking soda and water and leave it overnight. Clean the area using soap and water the following day.
• Lastly, if you think the grout lines need cleaning, use a small toothbrush to agitate the dust and debris along with the tile gaps.

The objective of cleaning is not just to clean, but to feel happiness living within that environment.

How to keep your granite tiles shiny?

• Always use a doormat, especially near exterior doors, to prevent dust and dirt from accumulating on the floor.
• If your granite tiles look dull, it is most likely because of the trapped dirt and debris on your stones’ surface. Follow the instructions on cleaning the granite tiles mentioned above to bring back your stones’ original shine.
• Avoid applying wax on your floor tiles as it makes the granite’s surface dangerously slippery, especially when wet. Hence, it is not suitable to use, especially if children or older people frequent the area.
