Has your Ring Doorbell not worked even after you fully charged it? Well then, you’ve come to the right place, why? Cause I’ve been in your shoes, my friend.

I don’t know about you, but in my case, I waited to recharge my battery till it was completely drained out, and not even kidding, my door

bell stopped functioning. So I kept it for charging for the stipulated time, put it back in, and to my bewilderment, my Ring Doorbell still was not working. 

I mean, that’s not normal. I certainly didn’t think so.

I had to find a solution for my problem; surely, I couldn’t have been the only one facing this issue.

So I set out with this sole mission in mind, and wouldn’t you know it – there were many solutions suggested, and for me, hardwiring my device did the trick!

While I was on my quest to find solutions, I realized that many people were looking for the same thing, so I’ve put together all my findings into this article.

If your Ring Doorbell doesn’t work even after charging the battery, try disconnecting and reconnecting the doorbell with the app.

If that doesn’t work, try taking the battery out and reinserting it. If both these don’t work, try resetting your device or hardwiring it.

Disconnect and reconnect the doorbell with the app

First and foremost, try disconnecting and reconnecting the Ring Video Doorbell with the Ring app. 

To disconnect the device, follow these steps:

Go to the ring app → Devices → Device Name → General Settings → Remove Device.

To reconnect the device, follow the steps given below:

• Go to the ring app → Set up a device → Scan the MAC ID on the device → Designate your location
• Name your device and Activate set-up mode
• Connect to the Ring device → Connect device to Wi-Fi → Test your device

Generally, a reboot like this should do the trick. But if it doesn’t, proceed to the following steps.

Take the battery out and reinsert it

If disconnecting and reconnecting the doorbell does not work for you, try one of the simpler solutions in the book. 

Here’s what you need to do: 

• Unscrew the cover over the battery compartment. 
• Push in the silver portion and remove the battery.
• Reinsert the battery; you will know it’s secure when you hear a click.
• Test it out in the Ring app, see if it shows that your battery is fully charged.  

Reset the doorbell

If all of the above methods have let you down, take a shot at hitting the reset button.

What this does is that it lets the device reboot itself automatically. Give it a minute or two, and there should be an improvement.

To carry out a hard reset on your Ring Doorbell, do as follows:

• Unmount the doorbell from the fixture.
• Go to the Ring App → Menu → Select your device → Device Health → Change Wi-Fi Network
• Press and hold the orange button located on the back of your doorbell for about 10 seconds and release.
• Connect to the doorbell once again → Pair it to the Wi-Fi
• To put it in Setup Mode, hold down the orange button.

Hardwire the doorbell

Like I said before, this method was the one that worked for me, so let’s get right into it.

It’s best to keep your Ring Doorbell’s Power and Voltage Requirements in mind while installing it. Setting the voltage too high could cause your Ring Doorbell to blow your transformer.

• Ring Video Doorbell Pro → 16-24 V AC
• Ring Video Doorbell 2, 3 and 3 Plus → 08-24 V AC

For hardwiring the Ring Video Doorbell 2, 3, 3 Plus, and 4, buy the Ring Video Doorbell plug-in adapter and connect it to your doorbell.

This device is designed to convert battery-powered Ring Video doorbells to run off of line current.

It can even be used in place for direct power connection with the Ring Doorbell 2,3, and 3 Plus – since all three of them have equivalent voltage requirements.

If and when the adapter successfully connects to the device, the LED on the button will turn ON.

However, if you have a Ring Video Doorbell Pro, you need to get the Ring Video Doorbell Pro plug-in adapter.

It connects to the device without much hassle, and you do not need to get any existing or new wiring done. 

Here’s how you install the adapter:

1. Choose a convenient power outlet and path.
2. Secure the cable and pass it through a hole in the wall to your device.
3. Drill the marked holes and pass the cables through them to reach the terminals of the Ring Video Doorbell and secure the slack wires.
4. When you plug in the power outlet, you know the system works.
5. Go to the Ring App → Front Door → Settings → Doorbell Kit settings → None → Save
6. Test out the new plug-in adapter by pushing the button on the doorbell.

Now, if your adapter wires aren’t long enough, use an extension cord. And instead of connecting this setup to a mechanical doorbell, you could get yourself the Ring plug-in chime.

As the name suggests, all you need to do is plug in the chime; and let it resonate in your house.

There are few pointers I must mention as we conclude this article. 

First off, when you hardwire the device, it does not matter which terminal you’ve connected the wires to.

Your device will work either way. At times, however, hardwiring might drain your battery during heavy usage since it cannot keep up with the heavy electrical load.

Secondly, you can use the same method where you disconnected the Doorbell from the app to remove Ring devices that you may have owned and replaced or relinquished for good.

Thirdly, make sure Wi-Fi is working properly and has a speedy internet connection.

Finally, while reinserting the battery, make sure you use short security screws under the battery cover.
