    History

Ezra decided he wanted a castle in 1920 and had one constructed over the next seven years. He also bought Jean Le Bouef's library to include in the castle, along with the tower Le Bouef had taken from Marie Antoinette and had attached to it. Wickford had the castle built so that the secret entrance to the tower and the dungeon was in the elevator shaft. The castle also has many dead ends, as Wickford was very worried about being robbed and hoped that a potential robber would get stuck in one while trying to escape. The castle also has a large library with books in multiple languages.

In 1945, Wickford shut himself away for what was to be many years. It was presumably around this time that he disowned his son, Dexter Egan. After Wickford's death, it was closed down for many years until his great niece, Christi Lane, finally inherited it and opened it up as a ski lodge in 1990. Dexter became the caretaker. After Nancy (along with bringing the castle to fame by discovering Marie Antoinette's treasures) reveals in 2001 that Dexter was actually Ezra's adopted son, Christi allows him to become co-owner.

The castle has many beautiful stained glass windows and paintings of Marie Antoinette to celebrate the historical significance of the library and hidden tower. As Professor Hotchkiss points out, "it's all so 18th C". There is also a building outside that houses machinery for the ski lift and a garden that Ezra liked to visit.

Wickford Castle is the inn that Nancy Drew was staying at in the game Treasure in the Royal Tower. It was apparently built by, Ezra Wickford, the man who invented chocolate milk in 1920. He built it with dead ends for fear of being robbed. The library and tower that Marie Antoinette visited was imported to the castle. And the tower is accessed through the elavator shaft. In 1945, Ezra locked himself up inside the castle for many years. Ezra later passed it on to his great niece, Christi Lane, when he died, and she turned in to a inn and ski lodge in 1990.

The castle has many beautiful stain glass windows and paintings of Marie Antoinette to celebrate the historical significance of the library and hidden tower.

    Notes[]

    • Wickford is also the name of the makers of the Koko Kringle Bar as well as several other chocolate and candies.

Here is a list of things to see from left to right starting from the stairs:

On the table to the right of the stairs, read the book called "True Stories Behind Famous Portraits".

Keep going and you can look at a painting of Marie Antoinette

Above the desk table, you can look at a hole in the wall.

Inside the desk table drawer, you can read "An Atlas of the United States".

Use the paintbrush to pick up dust from the desk table.

By the ship (not in a bottle), read the book "The Diary of Hans Axel von Fersen".

Notice the alarm to left of the door. (Remember the magazine!) Dust for fingerprints. You will see the combo Dexter pressed to turn off the alarm is 3*72.

On the floor below the globe, read the book titled "Purple-Hearted Queen".

Look at the globe, notice there is a puzzle. (Remember the atlas!) Click on the arrow pointing at the numbers to the longitude of Wisconsin (90) and press the top of the globe. It will open up.

Look at the paper inside the globe. Notice the numbers on it.

On top of the mantle, look at the plaque that says "A sly rabbit will have three openings to its den." Click on it.

It will open. (Remember the paper!) Enter in the combination (-15, 10, -5). You will hear a creaking noise.

    That's all to look at!

Now that you have solved that last puzzle, walk up the stairs and turn left.

You will see a room opened that wasn't there before. Enter it!

    Light the candle.

The candle will melt. Pick up the key.

To the right of the candle, there is a letter. "Read" it.

    Look at Ezra's bug collection.

Read the two scrapbooks on the table by the book shelf.

    Elevator Shaft

Once you go through the tunnels and go down the ladder, turn around until you see a vent with a lever beside it.

    Elevator Room

You will see that the elevator is in your way.

    Elevator

    Go to the second floor.

    Upstairs Hallways

    Talk to Professor Hotchkiss.

When she says "Who knows..", answer with starting with "Well, Professor Hotchkiss...".

If you selected the other choice, don't worry. You can still go back and offer your help.

Professor Hotchkiss will ask you a question. Here is answers to all of the questions she can ask:

On what date during the French Revolution was the Bastille Prison destroyed during the French Revolution?

To find the answer to this question, look at "Major Figures and Events of the French Revolution Book II". It is on the bookshelf  in the room where Lisa is.

The answer is July 14, 1789.

What is the model number on the elevator?

The answer for this is in the elevator.

                 The answer is 50964.

How old was Marie Antionette when she married King Louis?

The answer is found in "Major Figures and Events of the French Revolution Book I". It is on the bookshelf in the room where Lisa is.

                  The answer is 15.

Not counting the towers, how many windows are there on the face of the castle?

To be honest, I just guessed randomly at this one till I got it right.

                 The answer is 15.

How many days before her 38th birthday was Marie Antoinette executed?

This is found in "Major Figures and Events of the French Revolution Book I". This is on the bookshelf in the room where Lisa is.

                 The answer is 17.

If you want a different question, when you knock on Hotchkiss' door to "give her the answer" say "Uh, can you..."

That's it for this walkthrough video!  If you have ANY questions, comment on my post. I will respond ASAP and put it in my walkthrough for others. Thank you!
