Determine the Right Grade of Synthetic Oil for Your Subaru

You may not know it, but there are different grades when it comes to synthetic oil, and our certified Subaru technicians will recommend various grades dependent on your engine size and vehicle type. We determine the semi fluidness of your oil based on friction, called viscosity. When your Subaru is equipped with a 2.5 liter BOXER® engine like inside the Subaru Outback our recommendation is to use 0w-20 synthetic oil. For the Subaru Legacy with a 3.5 liter 6-cylinder BOXER® engine we suggest 5w-30 synthetic oil, or the use of conventional oil is acceptable. If your Forester utilizes the same 2.5 liter engine as the Outback then our recommendation remains the same, but if your unique ride has a 2.0 turbo BOXER® engine for the Forester then the recommendation is 5w-30 synthetic oil. Both the Impreza and Crosstrek utilize the 0w-20 oil. With the WRX and BRZ for at least the very first change we recommend 5w-30 synthetic oil.
