How to create your own audio on reels

Businesses have had their fair share of audio issues on Instagram Reels. Currently, there are two types of audio on Instagram: “Original Audio”, which is the audio that is uploaded from a video selected from a camera roll or filmed in-app, and “Music”, which is licensed music from a band or artist.

As it stands now, most business accounts are unable to access licensed music without a workaround. So, as businesses are constantly searching for new ways to use good audio on Instagram Reels, we want to share a way to create your very own.

Saving and using “Original Audio” is a popular way for business accounts to use trending audio for their IG Reels. This means the audio that’s used in one Reel is being saved and used in Reels by other Instagram users besides the original uploader. This is totally allowed on Instagram, and is encouraged. Each new audio that is uploaded (original audio or an actual song by an artist), has its own page. All the Instagram Reels that use that same audio will show up under that page.

Using a newly released feature in Instagram Reels, follow these easy steps to create, name, and give your original audio its best chance at going viral.

Here are a few ideas on how to create audio that has a good chance at trending:

A funny video clip: Got a video of a team member, friend, child, or pet that’s making a funny noise or telling a funny joke? This type of video makes a great candidate for trending original audio.

Background noise: Do you have a video clip that has a calming or serene background noise? This makes a great original audio because it can be used in the background of many videos. In the example above, I uploaded a video clip of the ocean, and made sure to include “ocean sounds” in the clip. Other background noise could include wind, a rainforest, a bird singing, and humming.

Educational. If you’re uploading a product “How-To” video, and including audible instructions, ask your audience to use your audio to follow along and make their own version of the product. This works great for florists building a bouquet, quilters, embroiderers, and craft stores!

A reaction. Reaction videos are very popular on Youtube, Instagram Reels, and on TikTok. A reaction video’s audio could include sounds of shock, happiness, anger, or excitement that can barely be contained.

A song. Do you have musical talent? Including your own music or cover song in an audio clip has great potential to be found and used by other accounts.

Be sure to name your Instagram Reels audio with easy-to-understand, searched-for words and terms. When naming your audio, consider the location you’re based in, the type of feeling the audio portrays, and any distinguishable words within the audio clip!

The more people that view your original audio’s page and use the audio, the higher the chance they’ll visit your Instagram page and follow along.
