How to record your face and screen at the same time on windows 10

Whether you’re creating a presentation, need a quick async catch-up with your team, or want to build a training video, screen recording your Windows desktop is the perfect visual way to get your message across.

There are a bunch of recording tools in the market – including those pre-installed on your PC – but many of them come with limitations. Some won’t record your entire screen, while others are complex and difficult to navigate. There’s just a lot of effort involved. So, if you’re tired of uploading and downloading large mp4 files every time you want to share a vid, there’s a better alternative!

Loom's free screen recorder captures your screen then instantly generates a shareable link without taking up any of your computer space!

To learn more, here’s our step-by-step guide on how to record your Windows screen using Loom's desktop app or Chrome extension.

Can you screen record on Windows 10?

Windows does have its own built-in screen recorder, but a third-party app like Loom offers extended features.

Loom’s pc screen recorder captures your entire screen, a specific window, or a customized screen area if you want to zoom in on the detail. It's as easy as hitting record and letting the software work its magic.

When you're done, your video renders with a shareable link. Say goodbye to uploading massive audio files, and hello to a more productive and streamlined video sharing experience.

Screen recording your desktop not only enhances your ability to communicate across the world, but also allows you to produce high-quality videos with Loom’s base editing features. The bottom line: you can do so much better than the out-of-the-box Windows recorder.

Loom goes the extra mile by allowing you to trim or stitch videos together. And you can also build your own video library to keep all your recordings in one place – perfect for everything from team collaboration to organizing your training materials.

What are the benefits of screen recording?

Communication has changed dramatically in the post-pandemic world, and many distributed teams now rely on screen recorders to stay connected asynchronously. Remote, hybrid, and in-office team members can all benefit from state-of-the-art screencasting tools to maximize efficiency and keep in touch.

Wondering exactly how screen recording your desktop will benefit your business? Here are some ideas:

  • Project Management – Encourage everyone to work toward a common goal by using a screen recorder to stay on track.

  • Employee Training and Onboarding – It’s never been easier for remote joiners to join the crew. Use video screen capture to greet and deliver recorded tutorials from afar.

  • Insightful Sales Calls – Impress prospective clients with insightful sales calls, face-to-face. Share your screen and show off your portfolio – it’s as simple as that.

  • Remote Troubleshooting – Quickly resolve IT issues without an on-site technician. Record your screen to walk through the problem and your support team will fix it remotely.

  • Team Collaboration – Creating meaningful connections is one of the greatest challenges for remote teams. Why not bring everyone together with the personal touch offered by screen capture?

Loom vs. Xbox Game Bar: which is the best screen recorder for Windows PC?

Xbox Game Bar is Window’s own screen recorder that’s popular with gamers. If you have Windows and only want to capture game clips or stream from Xbox One, then it’s not a bad shout. But Game Bar has a few drawbacks compared to Loom, so let’s break down the key differences between them.

With Loom, you can record your whole screen and get a shareable link for your video when you're all set. In contrast, Game Bar only works within a single application at a time, and it can’t record your Windows desktop or File Explorer either. If you want to screen record a series of task steps using multiple programs, or if you need to demonstrate anything using the Windows start menu, Loom is a better tool to rely on. And when you finish making your recording, it also offers a video editor and cursor highlighter, which isn’t the case with Game Bar.

Loom has you covered when you need anything more advanced than capturing basic gameplay – for example, if you need to record a presentation over PowerPoint or explain a complex idea to a teammate.

Loom also works across multiple devices and operating systems, so if you need to screen record on a Mac, you can use the same tool you’re already familiar with.

4. Choose your audio and camera:

If you want to record your camera and audio with your screen, you can select any camera or microphone connected to your computer (e.g., a webcam). Check the audio indicator to tell if your microphone is enabled and capturing audio before you hit the record button on your toolbar.

5. Click Start Recording.

6. To complete your recording, use the stop button on the Control Menu or click the Loom app on your desktop. You can also quickly restart, pause, or delete your recording from the Control Menu.

As soon as you finish recording, your video auto-uploads to Loom, where you can check and share it with a link — there's no need to download a large video file as you would through QuickTime player.

With Loom, you can customize your recording experience — from adjusting your microphone and camera inputs to resolution, settings, and keyboard shortcuts (which is especially convenient if you're used to pressing Win + G to record with Game Bar).

Popular shortcuts include:

  • Start and stop recording (Control + Shift + L)

  • Restart (Control + Shift + R)

  • Pause and resume (Alt + Shift + P)

  • Cancel (Alt + Shift + C)

  • Draw (Control + Shift + D)
