Official Highway Map

The Illinois Department of Transportation provides maps upon request to be used strictly for transportation-related purposes. At this time, we are limiting 1 map per email/mailing address.  If you are a school, library, law enforcement agency or any other institution need of a larger volume, the request will need to be submitted from an official school/library/law enforcement email account.

The Illinois Official Highway Map is published every other year and is available to the public free of charge. The electronic version of the map is available here: Illinois Official Highway Map PDF.

Official Highway paper maps are also available by order. See the Map Ordering section below for more information on ordering maps.

General Highway Maps

The General Highway Maps available to the public include County, City and Townships. Click the ‘County,’ ‘City,’ or ‘Township’ tabs below for more information about the specific map types and to access electronic versions of the maps.

County

The county classification maps depict the rural classification of the road network outside the city urban area within the selected county and emphasize the display of the road network outside the cities and villages.

City

The city classification maps depict the urban classification of the road network primarily for the selected city's urban area and emphasize the display of the road network inside the cities and villages at a larger scale than the county maps.  Image files open best using Chrome.

Township

The township classification maps depict the urban classification of the road network for larger city urban areas that do not fit on one single map sheet (eg: Chicago, South Beloit, Rockford, Peoria and E. St. Louis Urban Areas) and emphasize the display of the road network on a regional basis without regard to specific city and village boundaries.

Township Maps

IDOT Districts

The district classification maps depict the rural classification of the road network and emphasize the display of the road network between the counties of the selected district.
