Hi, I wondered if anyone can help me with this. I recently purchased a 2006 GC WK Laredo. The rear wheel wells have what is called a black hard plastic 'splash guard' at the rear end of the wheel well. Goes about 1/4 of the way up. It's not a mud flap but an inner guard. The rest of the wheel well, however, doesn't seem to have any protection from the elements. Just wondered if all GC WK's are like this? Also, at the front of the rear wheel wells (see pic), there is an indent which doesn't look right. I mean, you could maybe keep your car keys in there whilst out surfing or something, but it seems like there should be some kind of trim there to cover it up? I have scoured the world wide web and this forum, even used car websites of GC's for sale, but I can't find any close-up pictures of the inner REAR wheel well of a Jeep Grand Cherokee WK 2005-2010. Anyways, if anyone can confirm I would greatly appreciate it.

That is the same as my 07. At one time there were filler pieces available. I would have thought they came with the 05 and 06, but I guess not 06 so maybe just the 05. I looked into buying the filler pieces but I was too late, they were discontinued.
I also looked into adding the rear brake caliper covers but I was too late for those also.

Are wheel well liners necessary?

Yes, you can drive your car or truck without wheel well liners installed. However, it isn't recommended because it leaves the wheel wells' metal surfaces exposed to road spray.

What happens if you drive without fender liner?

Damage to your fender liner doesn't only affect your engine itself. It can also damage your wheel wells and headlights. If moisture or dirt causes your headlight wiring to corrode, you're looking at a more annoying and expensive repair. Of course, there is also the obvious danger of driving with less light at night.

What is the plastic cover inside the wheel well called?

Each front wheel has a separate fender liner. Its job is to block dirt, mud, water, environmental toxins, slush (in snowy areas), and other impurities from seeping into the engine bay and causing severe corrosion and harm. It also helps protect the wiring and other components inside of the wheel well from corrosion.

What is the part inside the wheel well called?

The Inner Fender Well is an important part to help prevent damage to a car.
