About us...About us... I have had an Aussie in my life for the better part of forty or so years. They were of the standard variety and my first was Coon Dog because he had the black patches over both eyes. That dog could herd cattle and track wild animals and he could always find me no matter how hard I tried to hide. He was always with me when I was horse back, no matter how many miles a day. AP Ranch is located in Fallbrook, Sunny Southern California, about an hour North of San Diego and a about a half hour South of Temecula in Riverside County. We service Central and Northern California and we have pups all over the United States, from "sea to shinning sea". AP Ranch started 26 years ago by raising Miniature Dachshunds and World Class Paint and Quarter Horses. We always had a full sized Aussie to protect the Doxies Thirteen years ago we found the Mini Aussies. At that time they were registered with ASDR, NSDR, MASCA, and NAMASCUSA. They have now been accepted into AKC and are called Miniature American Shepherds. Our mission is to produce the best pets that we can and always try to improve the breed. All of our parent dogs are genetically tested for all known genetic defects, so you the owner can rest assured that for years to come your dog will not have a genetic defect that may cause an early death. About Mini & Toy AussiesBecause the Aussie was developed both to herd and guard the flock, the mini Aussies are entirely devoted to their family and make excellent watch dogs and companions. As with all breeds, early socialization is of the utmost importance. The Miniature Australian Shepherd’s eager attitude means that working with the mini Aussie is a joy, but their intelligence means that obedience training is highly recommended. The ownership of any dog, especially one of an intelligent breed, should not be taken lightly. The Miniature Aussie’s temperament is that of the larger Aussie-sensitive, easily trained, excellent natural guardians of the home and possessing strong herding instincts. They are calm and confident, but suspicious of strangers. They are entirely devoted to their master and will go to great lengths to please. Their unique size makes for great traveling companions. A Miniature Australian Shepherd has all the attributes of the larger Aussie but the advantages of a smaller dog, weighing between 15 to 35 pounds at maturity. They come in coat colors of blue merle, red merle, black or red tri or bi. All come with or without copper/tan and white trim. Their eyes maybe blue, brown, hazel (amber) or one blue, one brown, and freckled or marbled. Their tails are sometimes naturally bobbed and longer ones are docked.
