Movies like the time travelers wife

The TV adaptation of The Time Traveler's Wife might not be getting a second season (via Screenrant), but it sure has entertained fans of sci-fi, fantasy, and romance shows while it was on the air. Just like the 2009 film adaptation, The Time Traveler's Wife primarily chronicles Henry DeTamble's (Theo James) adventures as he involuntarily travels through time and showcases how it affects his relationships, especially with his love interest Claire Abshire (Rose Leslie).

The Time Traveler's Wife was praised for its strong cast but received plenty of criticism for its tone and writing. While a lot of fans might be sad that The Time Traveler's Wife has been canceled by HBO, there are plenty of other shows that share similar narratives and themes with it.

Manifest

Tragedy meets time travel in the NBC show Manifest. An airplane flying from Jamaica suffers through a brief run of traumatic turbulence, although it still lands intact in New York City. But upon landing, the passengers and the crew quickly learn that they've disappeared for over five years and were presumed to have been dead.

Similar to the struggle of the main protagonist in The Time Traveler's Wife, the passengers in Manifest also have a difficult time integrating into society. What's more, the lead characters in Manifest also suffer from an affliction that allows them to hear strange voices and see visions that may lead to harm.

Outlander

Outlander is a science-fiction period drama that follows Claire Randall, a military nurse who suddenly finds herself in 1743 Scotland. There, she finds herself in the middle of a conflict between the British army and Scottish Highland rebels.

Despite having a husband in her present time, Claire falls in love with Jamie Fraser, a Scottish soldier. Both the main characters of Outlander and The Time Traveler's Wife have to navigate the pains of time travel, especially since it also affects those that they love, no matter what year or era.

Timeless

A professor, a soldier, and an engineer work together to keep history intact in the science-fiction show Timeless. The NBC show revolves around a stolen time machine being wielded by someone out for revenge. Timeless is a spectacle of a show as it goes back to monumental events such as the Hindenburg disaster and the Watergate scandal.

The disruptive ripple effect of time travel is both shown in Timeless and The Time Traveler's Wife. From the disappearance of a sibling to a failed mission of bringing someone back to life, Timeless is full of heartbreaking scenes that serve as a consequence of altering past events.

Go Back Couple

There are plenty of K-Drama shows that feature time travel as the main plot point. Go Back Couple, a short-lived K-Drama show with only one season and 12 episodes, sees an unhappy couple go through time to revert to their younger selves.

Aside from being a show about traveling through time, Go Back Couple and The Time Traveler's Wife both have couples who are unsatisfied with where they are and the decisions they've made. Go Back Couple also fuses drama with comedy and has plenty of moments that will surely melt the viewers' hearts.

Travelers

The Netflix show Travelers is set in a post-apocalyptic world where certain individuals are tasked with stopping the eventual doom of society. They do this by traveling through time and controlling the body of present-day humans who are a few moments away from their demise.

While the time travel in Travelers differs greatly from how it's performed in The Time Traveler's Wife, both shows have plenty of dramatic and suspenseful moments that will keep audiences on the edges of their seats.

A Discovery Of Witches

In A Discovery of Witches, Diana Bishop, a historian from a long line of witches, finds a manuscript that holds a mysterious power in the Oxford Bodleian Library. While she is reluctant to embrace her magical side, she is too tempted to resist the secrets of the powerful manuscript.

Time travel in the show is limited to a specific arc, where Diana finds herself in Elizabethan London. However, A Discovery of Witches finds common ground with The Time Traveler's Wife as both are book-to-show adaptations and feature a lot of swoon-worthy romance scenes.

Hindsight

The comedy-drama show Hindsight is about Becca Brady, a woman who is feeling extreme uncertainty on the eve of her wedding. After she wishes that she could do things again and make better choices, Becca wakes up to find herself in 1995, allowing her to change her fate.

The Time Traveler's Wife and Hindsight are both based on the concept of time travel and have headstrong protagonists. Despite being well-received by audiences and critics alike, Hindsight was unfortunately canceled immediately after renewal.

The King: Eternal Monarch

The K-Drama show The King: Eternal Monarch has an interesting plot. In the show, two versions of Korea exist in alternate realities. The Emperor, as well as dangerous assassins and nefarious armies, travel back and forth the parallel worlds to advance their agendas.

Both The King: Eternal Monarch and The Time Traveler's Wife have plots that involve time travel and main characters that are strong-willed and stubborn. Drama fans will also like The King: Eternal Monarch for its jealous characters, surprising twists, and clever dialogues.

11.22.63

Based on the novel by Stephen King by the same name, 11.22.63 is a science-fiction thriller that sees an English teacher named Jake Epping to go back in time to prevent the assassination of United States President John F. Kennedy. However, he might jeopardize his mission as he gets more attached to the life he created in that period.

The show was well-received for its moody atmosphere and touching script. And just like The Time Traveler's Wife, which stars Theo James in the lead role, 11.22.63 is also elevated by the stirring performance of James Franco, who assumes the role of Jake Epping.

Doctor Who

One of the longest-running TV shows in the world, Doctor Who doesn't only transcend time, but also parallel worlds and universes. The intergalactic TV show follows a Time Lord named The Doctor who can move across different timelines and universes through the TARDIS, which is a time machine spacecraft that usually takes the form of a British police box.

The Doctor has full control over where and when he wants to go in time thanks to the TARDIS. However, the protagonists of Doctor Who and The Time Traveler's Wife are kindred spirits who often leave other characters who constantly yearn for them.
