Popular interior paint colors for 2022 sherwin williams

It’s a new year (hello, 2022 👋) and that means new design trends … including new paint colors for house trends. In this blog post, I’ll share the trending colors for my two (favorite) go-to paint brands, Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore.

Spoiler alert … subtle green is VERY popular this year as evidenced in the 2022 home exterior trends and kitchen design trends, so it’s not surprising that both Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore have subtle green shades as their ‘Color of the Year’. 

Below is the ‘Paint Color of the Year’ for both Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore as well as other trending 2022 colors for these retailers. As always, there are some really great colors and some that are a little more *adventurous*, shall we say?!

TIPS TO SELECTING PAINT COLORS

TIP 1: Neutral paint is typically a good idea when it comes to painting the main areas of your home.

TIP 2: You can be more adventurous and try some of the other fun trending colors in your bedrooms, laundry room, or powder room. Many of these colors would also look gorgeous on kitchen cabinets, laundry cabinets, office cabinets, or pantry cabinets as well.

TIP 3: Choose paint colors that YOU like! This is YOUR home and you can have bold colors throughout if that’s what you want. You do you!

BENJAMIN MOORE COLOR OF THE YEAR 2022

Benjamin Moore’s 2022 ‘Color of the Year’ is October Mist (1495). This is a gorgeous neutral green paint color that would look amazing not only on your walls but also on your home exterior or kitchen cabinets. Green kitchen cabinetry is one of the big kitchen trends for 2022 :).

SHERWIN WILLIAMS COLOR OF THE YEAR 2022

Sherwin Williams 2022 ‘Color of the Year’ is Evergreen Fog (SW 9130). Like October Mist, this is another subtle, yet beautiful, shade of green. 

This simple organic green paint contains a hint of grayish blue and it looks great just about anywhere … on walls, home exteriors, and on cabinets.

POPULAR BENJAMIN MOORE COLORS 2022

In addition to October Mist, Benjamin Moore has 11 other paint colors trending in this year’s color palette.

This color palette is a beautiful collection of earthy, natural colors that range from very neutral (Steam, Morning Dew, Collector’s Item, and Natural Linen) to bold and sophisticated (Mysterious and Gloucester Sage) and some natural jewel tones (Wildflower, Pale Moon, and Venetian Portico) in the mix as well.

POPULAR SHERWIN WILLIAMS COLORS 2022

Sherwin Williams chooses colors a little differently than Benjamin Moore. Rather than just one trending color palette for 2022, they have FOUR forecasted color palettes (which = 40 colors total).

40 colors is A LOT for me to cover in a little blog post and, to be completely honest, I’m not a fan of some of the chosen colors 😬(did I just ‘say’ that out loud?!). However, I’ll share the entire color palette for you in the photo below. I’ve also created categorized lists of my top color choices from the Sherwin Williams 2022 forecasted colors.

• Natural Linen SW 9109 (subtle neutral beige)

• Alabaster SW 7008 (off white with a hint of gray)

• Pink Shadow SW 0070 (light pink with a hint of gray; would look cute in a nursery)
• Lite Lavendar SW 6554 (exactly as it sounds … it’s a soft lavender and would also look adorable in a baby nursery or little girls’ room)
• Rose SW 6290 (bold light magenta that would look SO pretty with white trim work!)
• Lullaby SW 9136 (very soft greenish-grayish blue)
• Moody Blue SW 6221 (subtle teal that would also pop against white trim work)
• Inky Blue SW 9149 (I’m a broken record but this would look amazing with white trim!)
• Aleutian (subtle blue that lends itself toward a light periwinkle almost)
