Hey Rob,

Any particular reason why you want the PCV, instead of say, recently superseded Power Vision CX (PVCX) or the latest Power Vision 3?

Not sure what I want now!
I was trying to avoid buying a new code number to have those cams fitted and it was suggested that its a better deal to spend a bit more on a Power Commander, and have more flexibilty with tuning? I haven't done any research and it now seems I should! Can you help me? What do I need to do the job?

All American have PCV and have me a price. But maybe there’s a better way or unit? I’m not sure what is the best way to go? But I’m hopeful someone out there in Indian-world will steer me through it?

PCV = old tech, PV3 = lastest tech

Contact Fuel Moto in the States and purchase a DynoJet PV3 from them, best mode available.

Yep this is sort of what I was planning to do Rob. Maybe we'll see if we can work a deal on these as well? I'll let you do the groundwork on this one

I’m told they’ve stop providing dyno tuning services for PCV.  The limitations are too great when tuning.

May I ask why you didn’t just buy a factory Stage 2 CAL?  I can’t remember what that stands for but it is a small credit card sized piece of paper with numbers on it.  Provide that number to your Indian dealer and they punch that number in to their laptop.  Once the number is associated with your bike, your bike will be able to download the factory tune.  I don’t know what they cost these days but they were around $50 - $100?  Give Melbourne Indian dealer a call and ask how much to buy a CAL card for Stage 2 Cams.  They do exist as someone’s Indian developed a faulty ECU.  Once the ECU was replaced, that bike needed new CAL numbers to download new tune.

I suspect you could even buy these CAL cards from overseas as they don’t have to send you anything.  They can just email you.  I believe Europe gets the same tune as us in Oz.  Not 100% but...

                    Card costs $280.
                    PV3 costs $A540
Can then recalibrate at any time for air cleaner, exhaust and cam mods

I can see your logic.  And I am not trying to talk you out of it.  I just want to convey to you that download/email tune has not been that spot on either.  If I am not mistaken, the Stage 2 Calibration Card has a provision for slip-on pipes and high flow air cleaner.  So, you could do all 3 mods for that one calibration card ($280).  I also don't recall the calibration cards costing that much but I haven't heard of anyone purchasing one for some time.

Stage 2 Calibration card doesn't allow for elimination of cat converter (not that you'd do that, because its against the law of course?)

Well... if your cat is loose and likely to fall off, I would say the factory tune is no good.  😆

                            Does Power Commander add horsepower?

The Power Commander is a tuning tool to adjust fuel, and on some models ignition timing. Just adding a Power Commander to a completely stock vehicle usually does not increase peak horsepower. It usually will improve drivability, throttle response, and mid-range horsepower and torque.

What does the Power Commander 5 do?

What is a Power Commander? The Power Commander is a fuel injection and, on some models, an ignition timing adjustment unit that plugs 'inline' with the bike's stock ECU (Electronic Control Unit). Changes are made to the bike's fuel and ignition curves via the Power Commander's onboard microprocessor.

What does a Dynojet Power Commander 3 do?

The Power Commander 3 USB provides precise information for fine-tuning fuel-injected motorcycle with upgraded air filters, aftermarket exhaust systems or engine modifications. Each unit includes a built-in microprocessor and a base map designed to improve engine performance over stock.
