Benefits of Stacked-Performance-Genetics™Our purebred Angus cattle herd, known by many as “the source,” is one of the most line-bred Angus herds in the U.S. The success of a line-breeding program depends on (1) How good the animals are to whom you line-breed and (2) How seriously you are willing to test and select from the offspring that result. We carefully selected our foundation sires from the Certified Meat Sire Program and early structured Performance-testing programs. Then we rigorously tested and selected the best cattle from our calf crops, and we’ve done that for generations, stacking performance on performance on performance. Today, the cows and bulls produced in the Jorgensen Registered Angus herd have as many as 15-generations of performance-tested ancestors stacked to form their foundation. That’s what we refer to as Stacked-Performance-GeneticsTM. And that’s why cattlemen like bulls (and cows) from Jorgensen Land & Cattle. The performance has been bred-in to them over multiple generations. Our ServicesHerd SiresSee for yourself why we are known as “the source” for foundation Angus genetics. Testimonials“I think Martin (Jorgensen) was the first person in the country to achieve national prominence as an advocate of performance-testing and evaluation of seedstock. Before that, the performance people like Martin were considered to be just a bunch of crackpots sitting off to the side with crazy ideas about the fact that weight and growth had any economic bearing whatsoever on beef production. Martin set the stage for the change in that mindset. John CrouchFormer CEO of the American Angus Association How much do Angus bulls sell for?To put the record price in some perspective, good quality bulls on the open market typically sell for between $5,000 and $8,000. The bidding for Cowboy Up started at $25,000 and quickly spiked above the $100,000 mark.
How much do breeding bulls sell for?One is that a bull should be worth two-and-a-half times a finished steer. At today's market, the steer is worth almost $2,000, so a bull would be worth $5,000. Another thumb rule says a bull is worth five times the price of a steer calf. Do that math, and you arrive at about the same number for the bull: $5,000.
How much is a bred Angus cow worth?Full-grown cows can cost as much as $4,000 to $5,000 per cow. A full-grown cow can weigh as much as 2,200 pounds and go for as much as $1.85 cwt.
How much is a Angus heifer worth?Angus steers and heifers averaging 568 and 557 pounds (lb.), respectively, brought a combined average of $4.24 per cwt. premium over their non-Angus contemporaries with similar weights and condition, compared to nearly $7 per cwt. in the historically high cattle market.
