Ok...so...I am a diehard romance junkie. So sue me already. Show ANYWAY. I literally stumbled on this movie and when I watched the trailer, I was like...ugh, pass. Cheese. No thanks. B-u-t...for reasons I can't even explain...well, I'd had 2 glasses of wine...so really, so anyways: I watched it. And. Hmm. Wow. Hmmmmm again. The story of country singer Charlie going back to Harmony, TN to get her mom's wedding dress for her coming nuptials but from her angry grandmother who's never forgiven her for ghosting the Fam for 7 years, but also confronting her past was... I'm not sure. Intriguing after the first 30 mins, for sure. However, this romance story is not your typical plot. Which I liked and...also didn't. I'm conflicted, honestly. Charlie left Harmony to pursue her dreams of becoming a country singer star. And she did. But at the cost of her heart when she was dumped by her then-boyfriend, Ray--who is now hunky AF and the Sheriff of the town and still burning a torch for our heroine. Because of that breakup, Charlie was able to build her career and make a name for herself, and find the dream man she'd always wanted: Spencer. Yeah? Eh. No? Soooooo...a lot to unpack here. There were several subplots: Charlie's exit from Harmony, the death of her mom and how it affected Charlie, how Rose (the grandmother) dealt with Charlie and her warfare of not letting her granddaughter have the dang friggin' dress, Charlie's unresolved past love life (Ray), and her present (Spencer) but it all somehow worked in this movie. Was it always explained thoroughly? No, but I don't want a massive backstory for every subplot and the way the director/writer/producers did it worked fabulously. Just enough for me to be satisfied and not be like: YOU MISSED THIS DETAIL. SCREW YOU. (And then quietly yearn for something they can't deliver. Ahem.) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ^^^ I'm still there ^^^ But to move on: I wasn't sure about the heroine--a real-life country singer Lauren Alaina--as our female MC. However, she delivered and it was solid. The secondary characters were also really great! Which...surprised me as well. Overall, it was surprisingly good all around. My only...disappointment...was that they didn't make the character of Spencer more endearing and a stellar reason for her to choose him over Ray. Cuz the chemistry between Donny Boaz and Lauren Alaina was...FIRE...so when she ended up with Spencer (with whom she had no chemistry with and I'm still like: WHYYYYYYYYY)... I was like...I guess. (Internally screaming: NOOOOOOO.) So the ending sucked for me. The H/h did not end up together and I'm (kinda) mad about that lol. End of story. But enjoy the movie. Peeaaacceeee outtie!
