"Things will change. I promise."Verified purchase
Almost a perfect zombie movie. Shaun is a loser, someone who cannot make a good decision and seems oblivious to everything that goes on around him. And one of his roommates is Ed, who is even more of a loser. And if likes attract likes, it seems everyone he hangs around with, including his family have some of the same traits. He loves Liz, but he cannot carry out anything that he promises. He has a job as ‘senior’ in sales at an electronic store. From unknown origin, a plague results in people turning into zombies, and Shaun, his mother and father, Ed, Liz and her two friends set out to escape to safety. Naturally, none of them seem to be able to come up with a coherent plan among them. All of this is played for absurd laughs, and it hits on most cylinders. This movie takes an absurd situation to an entirely different level and if one waits for a good plan, it will be a long wait. Some over the top hysterics, but it fits with the movie. I loved in the recaps at the end of the movie, where it was stated that some of the zombies were found to be perfectly suited for the service industry!

Funny take on the zombie apocalypse genre.Verified purchase
The movie is funny, fast moving and great fun. As Shaun struggles to stay alive between his dysfunctional relationships, dead end job and heavy drinking, the occasional hungry dead people show up to rain even more on his parade. A favorite of mine. The cast works so well together.

The movie is fairly good, mildly entertaining and somewhat funny at times. It's not a serious movie, but more something to watch when you're in the mood for something a bit silly.

The British humor is fun, like when in the midst of zombie carnage the two groups of survivors meet and form lines to exchange polite handshakes.

Hilarious satire of the zombie genreVerified purchase
Shaun of the Dead was by far the greatest collaboration between Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. It was a hilarious satire of the zombie genre and done to great effect.
Pegg as Shaun and Frost as Ed played two London slackers who never quite grew up. Pegg works at a job he hates selling appliances and loses his girlfriend Liz played by Kate Ashfield because of his lack of initiative. Ed sells drugs. Their favorite past time is hanging out at the Winchester pub. Every day was the same for them until the zombie apocalypse hit. That led to nothing but comedy. For example, when a zombie wanders into their living room they try all different kinds of methods to kill it including coach cushions, empty beer cans, and finally an ash tray that hits it in the head. In another instance there are two zombies in their backyard and Shaun and Ed decide to throw records at them to try to kill them. Then their big plan is to go the Winchester as their safe place to wait out the apocalypse.
Like the classic zombie movies of George Romero it also pokes fun at modern society. During the credits for example it shows people working their jobs bored out of their brains, people walking slowing through the streets, others waiting for the bus all acting like they are already the undead. In fact, when the apocalypse initially hits Shaun doesn’t even notice. For instance Shaun and Ed see a zombie moaning in the street and play like he’s singing along to them as they recite “White Lines” by Grandmaster Flash. Then they find one in their backyard and they think it’s just a drunk girl. When she tackles Shaun to the ground Ed takes a picture of them together. The ending plays on that theme that people are already acting like the walking dead as well.
Overall great movie with great laughs making fun of zombies.
