Stop start unavailable service stop start system jeep grand cherokee

After having some body work done, my car now says “Auto Start/stop not available”. Car is running fine. Dealership said I needed a battery as one of the cells was bad. Replaced the battery and still have the error message. Any ideas?

Update: Aux battery fixed it! I have seen so many message boards etc about this same problem so that is what worked for me.

2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee

When my stop/ start says unavailable the Jeep starts shaking with flashing engine light. As soon as vehicle is shut off and restarted no issues. And drives just fine.

What seems to make the problem better or worse? When the stop start becomes unavailable

How long have you had this problem? This twice now but when it wants to

Hello, are you saying your start/stop says unavailable while your engine is still running? Then how do you shut it off?

I guess on one hand I'm not understanding the concern. And then on the other hand, the only thing you can do is perform proper diagnostic testing with appropriate diagnostic equipment that is functional with your Jeep. Having the skill and reference materials available is essential.

I’m having the EXACT same issue. Were you ever able to figure out what it was?

Problem: The stop start is “not ready”
because the dashboard display says the
driver door is open even though the door is
closed. The “door open” is only displayed in
the stop start menu. Meaning the routine
door ajar sensor detects the door as being
closed and has not malfunctioned.

Possible Influences: The Cherokee sat for 9
months while I was deployed overseas.
When I returned the battery was completely
dead. After replacing the battery everything
else is functioning properly.

Hey everyone,
Needing some advice before taking my Grand Cherokee to the mechanics. I’ve had the error message come up “start/stop unavailable service start/stop system”. My jeep is a 2017 Grand Cherokee Limited, with just over 130k on it. The first couple of times when I get that message come up I’ve pulled over shut the jeep off let it sit for a couple of minutes and then restarted it and the message would be gone, however driving it today the message wouldn’t go away after stopping it and restarting it. Any ideas as to what is causing this or is there something that I can do to fix this, or is this going to be an expensive trip to the mechanics? Any help is much appreciated, thanks for your time!

This forum is for the baby Cherokee (KL) and not the Grand. There are some differences in the charging systems between the two, but the standard answer for the KL is a battery load test. More times than not, start/stop unavailable is related to an old/bad battery.

Sorry about that! But thank you for the info.

Fyi: he has a separate battery for his start/stop system.
Its sort of a pita to replace but do-able.

What does it mean when your Jeep says stop

Battery temperature is too warm or cold. Battery charge is low. The vehicle is on a steep grade.

What does it mean to service stop/start system?

Stop/Start Technology automatically stops and starts the vehicle's engine under certain conditions. By turning off the engine when not needed, Stop/Start Technology can help improve fuel efficiency, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions (compared to the same vehicle with Stop/Start Technology not in use).

What does an A with a circle around it and an exclamation mark mean on a jeep?

? Looks like: A capital letter “A” with an arrow encompassing it and an exclamation mark to the right. ? Means: There is an issue with your Stop/Start system.
