Celebrate America’s birthday in America’s birthplace!

Philadelphia, home to the creation and signing of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, celebrates the Fourth of July by lighting up the streets, the skies and the stages across the city and region, from the start of the annual Wawa Welcome America festival (the City of Philadelphia’s official Independence Day fest) to the incredible fireworks finale over the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

For 2022, Wawa Welcome America continues to commemorate both Juneteenth and the Fourth of July, holidays that together tell a more complete picture of freedom and liberty — from the nation’s founding in 1776 to the end of slavery in 1865.

This year’s 16-day festival aims to showcase different perspectives on what independence means in the United States with programming from (and free admission to) museums and attractions in the city; hoagie giveaways from Wawa; concerts, including one starring Jason Derulo and Ava Max; and more — all for free.

Where to Watch Fireworks

The best place to watch fireworks are at event venues. You may also be able to see some the larger displays from nearby balconies, roof-top decks or scenic viewpoints.

If you plan to light your own fireworks, please note the local restrictions. Within Eugene, fireworks that are legal for retail purchase may be used only between July 3 and July 4. Fireworks are banned in Eugene from south of 18th Avenue east of Agate Street, encompassing the South Hills.

Fireworks are never permitted on public lands. Please be mindful of campfires and fire safety over the holiday weekend.

As always when lighting personal fireworks follow safety guidelines. Only use approved, legal fireworks. Stay away from dry foliage and structures and always have a water bucket and hose nearby. Supervise children closely and be considerate of your neighbors and pets. Loud noises and lights can be traumatic to veterans with PTS and frighten sensitive pets. Make sure your own pets are secured safely indoors. Firework sales start June 23.
