University of south florida internal medicine residency

Graduates of our program pursue fellowship training in all subspecialties of Internal Medicine and have directly entered the practice of general internal medicine in a variety of settings. Residents rank electives each year to allow for career exploration in many facets: subspecialties, outpatient private practice, and hospital administration to name a few.

To assist with career development, residents meet semiannually with program leadership to discuss career goals, outline a roadmap to meet these goals, and are directed to faculty with similar interests. Our residents develop research projects that align with career goals: research within a subspecialty, quality improvement research in the inpatient or outpatient setting, and dissemination of curricular development and medical education research.

Residents interested in fellowship, are provided specific faculty mentors based on their personal interests. Our fellowship Program Directors encourage meetings with interested residents to discuss research interests, faculty mentors, and review of CVs. All residents applying for fellowship receive assistance and feedback on their CV, personal statement, and application information. The exposure our residents get on service, opportunities for scholarly activity, and the multifaceted mentorship process has led to continued success for our residents in their post-residency careers.
