Where to get a replacement social security card near me

You do not need to wait for an appointment to file for benefits or appeal a disability decision. You can file for the following benefits online:

  • Retirement.
  • Medicare.
  • Spouses.
  • Disability.

If you do not want to apply for benefits online, or you need to speak to us for any other reason, you can schedule, reschedule or cancel an appointment by:

  • Calling us at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) between 8:00 am – 7:00 pm, Monday through Friday

  • Contacting your local Social Security office.

If you lost your card, you may not need a replacement. In most cases, simply knowing your Social Security number (SSN) is enough. But, if you do need a replacement, you can complete your application online or in-person.

The easiest way to request a replacement SSN card is online with a free, personal my Social Security account. You can go to www.ssa.gov/ssnumber and answer a few questions to find out the best way to apply. If you aren’t able to use a personal my Social Security account to request a replacement card, you can still begin the process online and complete it in a local Social Security office or card center, usually in less time.

If you cannot complete the application online, you will need to provide the required documents. We need to see different documents depending on your citizenship and the type of card you are requesting. If you do not begin the application online, you will need to fill out and print an Application for a Social Security Card and bring it to your local Social Security office.

There is no charge for a Social Security card. This service is free.
