I found this forum while searching for a solution to a recent problem. I have a 2004 Colorado 4x4 Ext Cab 5cyl Z71.

I disconnected the negative battery terminal for cleaning and when I reconnected it, I found that my driver's side power window (but not the passenger side) and both power door locks did not work.

I started looking on the net and at different forums and found similar problems. Most people were able to fix this by just disconnecting the negative cable overnight or doing a global reset or just waiting for several days for it to reset by itself. These didn't work for me and I couldn't for wait days in the middle of winter with my window stuck down on my daily driver.

Finally I found a thread about re-setting the BCM. I disconnected the negative terminal agin, pulled the passenger side kick-plate, and unplugged/disconnected all three harnesses. I then went in the house and waited about 20 mins. I came back out, reconnected the harnesses, the negative terminal, started the truck and everything was back to normal.

As a new member and first time poster, THANKS TO EVERYONE ON 355NATION AND COLORADOFANS FOR THEIR POSTS AND IDEAS ON THIS PROBLEM. If it weren't for you, I'm sure I would have been spending cash I don't have....

I just had this same problem, but mine just started working again after letting the truck sit over night. I'm going to do this if it happens again, or maybe just for the hell of it. I did order some better battery terminals thinking the junk factory ones might be the problem.

i have this issue right now... my question is did you disconnect just the harnesses on the passenger side kick plate? or both passenger AND drivers side, because the passengers side window works fine, as does my power mirrors on the drivers side, should i try disconnecting the power window and harness on drivers side and both power lock harnesses or just unplug all harnesses regardless of if their working or not and let it sit?

no but mine stuttered going up like it was out of track, but then stopped doing that, i began to think maybe some sort of moisture got in there and then froze in the cold weather, thats the only explanation i can offer to myself lol

If the window doesn't go down well but goes up fine it's a motor issue and needs to be replaced.

If the locks are affected along with the window then it's a bcm issue. Pull the negative cable off the battery for over 30 minutes.

OP do you have hid's?

found something out today when mine decided to crap itself. It WOULD NOT reset the BCM untill I unplugged the radio fuse. I have a metra gmos01 and an aftermarket radio of course. Before I added the radio it would be a simple unhook batt cables let sit an hour hook it up and all good. I noticed today everytime I reconnected the batt cables the metra chime would go off and the locks would click once then stop working again. So the last time I tried today I decided to unhook the radio fuse before reconnecting the batt cables. Walla it worked. Not saying it will work for everyone but it worked for me.

Having this same problem as well. Have left the truck with battery cables off for a full day and tried multiple times disconnecting the cables for short periods of time then re-connecting. No luck so far. Have tried disconnecting the BCM and fuses with no luck either. Going to give it one more day before ordering a new driver side master window switch. I have read on coloradofans that most people have had luck curing the issue permanently by replacing the switch. Here goes nothing! I will post back after repairs are complete!

Just got my new driver side window switch/door lock switch. Also found out when removing it that it is actually a control module. New part on for $89.95 and $5.99 shipping. Works like a charm now. Tried to take apart the old module and found no loose solder. Just for kicks I stuck the old module in my toaster oven at 125 degrees F for 20 min. Put it back on the truck and it worked like a charm, after about an hour in the cold it stopped working completely again. Seems like this problem arises after battery or switch disconnection often, but is really a tell tale sign that the switch/module is going going gone. Hope this helps others! Don't forget to use the SEARCH feature!!!

My battery started to die about 4 days ago, I just thought it was from the cold weather recently. My door locks and drivers door did went out, and I was too busy to check under the hood for a blown fuse. After it died, I checked under the hood, and found battery acid all over the terminals. After cleaning the acid completely off, the battery acted like normal. The next morning, the battery died again. After jumping the truck at home, then after school I ran to walmart. (Drivers window and locks still not working at this point) I figured that a fresh battery would solve the problem, but I was wrong. So after checking fuses, wires, and other options, I found this thread. about 10 minutes ago, I did as mentioned above. I disconnected the negative terminal, and disconected the three harnesses from the BCM. Hopefully this fixed the problem. We will know shortly.

YES IT WORKED!!!!! I let it sit for about an hour and it worked. I would recommend this method to others, good luck!!!

What caused power door locks to stop working?

Possible Causes There are many issues that can cause your power locks to stop working: Your key fob is faulty or has a dead battery. Sometimes the answer is in your hand! Many people stress about the functionality of their doors not realizing the only issue was the key fob.

Why are my automatic locks not working?

The key fob battery is dead: This is one of the most common reasons why your car door lock is not working. If your locks aren't working, replacing the battery in the key fob could solve the issue. The key fob is faulty: If the battery isn't the problem, the issue may be with the fob itself.

Why are my car doors not locking and unlocking?

A malfunctioning logic board or a break in the wire could cause problems. If the lock and unlock function works intermittently, there could be an electrical short in the system due to the plastic insulation of the wire being worn down. If it has ceased to function at all, the wire could be broken.
