Sep 6, 2010 Hey guys, I'm installing a new MTC clutch on my bike today, and figured since I don't know when the last oil/filter change was (just bought it 2 weeks ago), I might as well go ahead and change the oil and filter. Before posting this, I've done quite a bit of research. I went to the site that was linked here for the "cross reference" of oil filters
and read up. (this site: http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/FilterXRef.html ) So I decided that for the oil, I'm going to use Mobil 1 Synthetic 10W40 4T motorcycle oil. Now for the filter, the cross reference site basically said I could go with the Mobil 1 M1-108 (2.5" long) or M1-110 (3.25" long). It also mentioned that the M1-110 was the best choice, if it can fit (if there's clearance for the longer length). Does anyone here run the M1-108 or M1-110 oil filter? Or does anyone
recommend running the OEM Honda filter instead? I've always run Mobil 1 oil and filters and on my cars/trucks/bikes, and have never had a problem. Oh, and I wanted to go with Amsoil oil/filter for the bike (after reading the reviews here), but I would need to order it online, and I'm doing all this stuff today. Any help is greatly appreciated. Hey overbo0st, Both of those filters will work. From this thread: The following is a list of filter numbers that will work on the 1800 and 1300. Car filters about 2.5 inches tall; Car filters about 3.25inches tall; Super Tech

Glad you didn't ask what kind of oil to use...:stirpot:...that would have been another long one. The above list should cover it.

I've used the longer M1-110 filter for years and in both VTXs. No issues. Joined Aug 9, 2010 · 70 Posts

I'm a cheap ol [email protected] - bought a bunch of the walmart ones while they were still "Made in USA" - probably last longer than me.

I've been using the Bosch 3323 ever since the first oil change in my X and my Shadow. That's 80,000 miles combined. Joined Aug 17, 2010 · 14 Posts

Sep 7, 2010 Well, I ended up replacing the clutch and doing the oil change. Went with the M1-110 filter and Mobil-1 10W40 4T synthetic oil. Everything went smooth, hardest part was getting the exhaust off, then working it back on. One question, the bike has a weird metallic ringing sound coming from under the tank. It was not doing that before the
clutch/oil change...not sure if it's the valves that need adjusting or what. Oh, and for some reason the exhaust is back firing like crazy too. I did install new exhaust gaskets, not sure if that made a difference. Joined Apr 8, 2007 · 2,822 Posts

I do too, man! I used to watch it with my dad when I was a little kid... probably explains a lot lol! he was a genius as far as i am concerned...i love the old british comedy...especially the live skit shows. benny hill being top of the list. i like the fact that they kept the cameras rolling...anytime they
made a mistake, they had to work through it. the giggles, goofs and mistakes are what made it so funny Joined Sep 4, 2008 · 198 Posts

I had that problem went crazy thinking it was the valves turned out to
be the heat shield. Joined Oct 24, 2008 · 9,160 Posts
Hey bud, I would start a new thread about the other issues. People who may know the answer may not read an oil filter thread. That's the understatement of the year! :mosh:
