While people want to feel the effects of alcohol when they go out, they also want to feel energized. You’d think the two substances would cancel each other out, but the intended effect (whether it’s a placebo or not) draws people in night after night. The cocktail is so popular, it led to the invention of caffeinated malt beverages like Sparks and Four Loco—which, for better or worse (probably better)—have been legally required to tame down their formulas for health reasons. While you could pour yourself the classic, two-ingredient cocktail or get funky with it by making Red Bull Vodka Jello Shots, bartender and author of Energy: Cocktails to Get You UP Steph Russ has an even better version: a blended mix of Red Bull, vodka, triple sec and lime juice that puts all other variations to shame. “This cocktail is an energized take on the traditional Cosmopolitan, which is perfect for outdoor day parties when the weather is nice,” says Russ. “I use the Red Bull Red Edition, a cranberry-flavored energy drink, in place of cranberry juice to spice up the classic.” Depending on how well-stocked your 24-hour mini mart, gas station, or other energy drink procurement center is, you might not find the full range of Red Bull Edition flavors. That’s okay. We used regular old Red Bull in this frozen delight, and it tasted just as great. Whip up a batch for your energy drink-loving friends before a night out, and listen to the compliments roll in.
