I hope you dance tattoo ideas

My mother passed away from breast cancer on April 6th 2001, it was my senior year and a few weeks before my 19th birthday. My sisters all got a breast cancer ribbon for a reminder of my mother, but to me that seemed to be vague and not something personal. Many people have “In Memory of” tattoos. For me I don’t like the idea to have the birth and death of someone on your body. Personally I didn’t want to be a walking tombstone.
During my mother’s funeral, she wrote a letter to us girls, quoiting they song “I hope you dance”
I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance,
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Livin’ might mean takin’ chances but they’re worth takin’,
Lovin’ might be a mistake but it’s worth makin’,
Don’t let some hell bent heart leave you bitter,
When you come close to sellin’ out reconsider,
Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.

I hope you dance

As I grew older and was I on my own, I had a few struggles in my life.  I would turn on the radio and hear that song play, like it was a message from my mother, telling me to keep going.  I never really listened to the song deeply when I was a teenager, but as an adult they hit home.

I choose “I hope you dance” tattoo for the memory of my mother, but it isn’t just for her, it is also a reminder for myself.  To remember that life has struggles and people will break my heart but I have to find time to dance.

The design of the tattoo was done by a friend from mine, he was also the one to tattoo it on me.  I told him that I wanted “I Hope You Dance” on my arm, but I want it in a style that fits my personality.  He suggested ransom letters, and it was perfect! 2013 12 years after my mom passed away I got the tattoo done and I don’t regret it.  When I feel like I am about to give up, I have a reminder in my site to try harder.  I think having a generic tattoo with dates don’t have a strong meaning then some thing that holds more personal value.
