This is the producer's cooler-climate offering of the variety—a steely, classically structured wine that has crisp well-defined apple, melon and pear. Virginie Boone 2017 Vintage Tasted: Jun 2019 This has inviting wafts of spicy ginger, nutmeg and clove from the beginning, and then notes of oak that follow through with flavors of Asian pear and lemon. The acidity is moderate and the body full and concentrated, with a lasting note of butter. Virginie Boone 2015 Vintage Tasted: Jan 2017 Full bodied and fleshy, this is an approachable wine, richly concentrated in candied-peach flavor that pleases and finds a balance between power and grace. 2014 Vintage Tasted: Jan 2016 A greeting of caramel and honey reveals a touch of barrel reduction in this medium-bodied, generously layered wine. It imparts a ripeness of melon and apple, finishing in a sprinkling of nutmeg. 2013 Vintage Tasted: Jan 2015 Tart apple and lemon provide a zesty brightness and elegance in this straightforward wine, a celebration of minerality on the palate. Midway through, a taste of more developed stone fruit adds complexity and creaminess, with the wine finishing lean. 2012 Vintage Tasted: Jan 2014 Balanced and fairly light, this is nuanced in apple, pear and quince, with soft tannins and eager acidity that comes off as bright citrus. The texture has some creaminess that isn't overdone and the finish revisits the themes of lemon and lime. 2011 Vintage Tasted: Jan 2013 This big-production wine from Stag's Leap hits all the popular Chardonnay buttons. It's soft and sweet, with orange and pineapple jam, buttercream, vanilla and toast flavors, brightened by crisp acidity. The grapes come from the cooler, southern parts of the valley. 2010 Vintage Tasted: Jan 2013 The cool 2010 vintage benefited this Chardonnay, giving it brisk acidity and finesse. It's very rich in orange, pineapple and apricot flavors, with a thick jacket of sweet, caramelized oak. Drink now with rich fare, such as lobster bisque. 2008 Vintage Tasted: Jan 2011 With just a hint of oak, this Chardonnay is all about fruit and acidity. It's dry and crisp, with a firm, clean mouthfeel, and pleasant citrus, apple, pear and mineral flavors. 2007 Vintage Tasted: Jan 2010 A dry, somewhat lean Chardonnay marked by suggestions of lemons and limes, with some oak and lees influence, and notes of fresh herbs. Almost like Sauvignon Blanc in its tart, lemony feeling. Drink now. 2005 Vintage Tasted: Jan 2007 A new Chard from this producer. It shows typical Napa characteristics of dryness and a dried herb earthiness, in addition to the apple, pear, oak and lees flavors. The texture is great, brimming with crisp acidity, yet the wine would benefit from richer fruit. The nose is fruity, fresh and offers a small freshness and crunchiness. It reveals notes of peach pear, fleshy/juicy peach and small notes of ripe/juicy lemon associated with fine touches of quince, fresh apple and an imperceptible hint of ripe pineapple. The mouth is fruity, fresh, well-balanced and offers a juicy/fresh frame as well as minerality. In the mouth this wine expresses notes of fleshy apple, quince and small notes of small yellow fruits associated with fine touches of lychee/quenette as well as fine hints of small lychee (in the background).
