First you should know that this set uses the new style Thomas & Friends Wood track, and I wouldn't recommend trying to use it with the classic style track or other brands, even with the included adaptors. I actually like this style of connector, but I don't currently own any of the older style. Secondly, there is not enough track here, and I highly recommend that you have more. I got this to go with our Figure 8 set, and we also got a couple of the Turnout Track Packs, which are priced absurdly low right now.The set itself is a lot of fun. Our other set had no cars for Thomas to pull, and this really fixed that. My three year old loves moving the cargo from truck to truck. But, apart from the few pieces of basic track, most of this is plastic. Some of this has a purpose, the plastic switch pieces mean they can act like switches. Still, I wish those were wood without anything to move. And the two main building pieces have only a tiny amount of wood, which is understandable where there's a mechanism, not so much in other places. The plastic seems sturdy and not cheap, but I really wish all these designs were predominately wood, instead of using it as an accent. Even the trucks are mostly plastic. He's a big fan of Cranky and the other cranes, so the fact you get a gantry crane here and a little drop tower loading dock is pure gold for him. Plus you get a couple of troublesome trucks that you can tip over, so there's a great deal of interactive parts for a child to play with. One of the hidden gems is the three way track switch your child can easily manipulate, which allows this set to be the nexus in a much larger conglomeration of Thomas wooden railway pieces. I'd argue this is a must have set to help build out your child's Thomas collection with the crane, the switch, and the loading dock - just make sure you have plenty of wooden rail pieces because you're not getting many with this set. It's a cute little set and I really like that it comes with the track adaptor pieces so we can add on to our other tracks. I think the crane could definitely be a little sturdier but is working fine for us since he doesn't out too much pressure on it. The knob on it is easy for our toddler to twist to load and unload cargo. Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on January 6, 2019 I got a great deal on this when purchasing for my 3 year old for Xmas. It’s a great little set that easily blends with his other cars and trucks and rescue/load scenarios that he does all day. I am so irritated by the connectors though?? I didn’t even notice they changed. Not sure what the company was thinking - I purchased a couple other items by brio for my son because of the price and they were cool. I definitely will not purchase any more Thomas brand track if it’s going to be more expensive AND I need adaptors for everything, and other companies come up with stuff just as cool.
