I was just wondering what the top speed is on your gtx 155?

Thanks

  • #3

top speed on a 155 ski should be about 55-58ish

  • #4

top speed on my 08 GTX 155 is 62 -- but that's just off the speedo, not checked with a gps

  • #5

its not 62, trust me, GPS is 55-58

I just bought 2 2008 GTX 215's both of them seem to hit top end at 70 mph..

your motors are supercharged with an integrated intercooler in the intake manifold, so yes you have more power hence more speed, if you actually GPS your speed, you should see a reduction of 3-5 mph compared to what the speedo is reading

I hear ya, but don't read too much into GPS technology, a little knowen fact is that all US GPS satellies have a goverment manditory error rate built into any reading you will see off of a commercial hand set.

It's an even lesser known fact that the "Selective Availability" feature that you are referring to was turned off in 2000.

Checked my speedo with a gps, and the speedo reads about 4 mph over when doing anything over about 40mph. So, my 60 is really 56.

I was re-reading this thread and it got me thinking again... the price break between a 155 and a 215 is about 2 grand, and sometimes less if you shop around.. My Riva stage II kit on my 215 was almost 3 grand not including the install. Your original post was about your 155, It would have been money well spent had you just picked the 215 over the 155 out of the gate if you were looking for a speed gain.

I have 2 2005 155 HP 4 tecs. They both go at about 50 MPH with about 450Lb crew(2 crew).I am about 200Lb and I can get up to 55-58 tops in flat water. My wife being much lighter is allways a bit faster .I am glad we all get about the same readings with stock engines

  • #15

I just found this forum and this thread. I am glad I did. Bought a GTX 215 in July. Finally did the 10 hour break in opened her up. Only got 55 mph out of it with either me and wife, or just me on it. Top speed only 55. Called the dealer and he said it should only do 55-60 mph. Didn't believe him. Did a google on top speed which led me to this thread. I see here that I should be seeing at least 65 mph on the speedo which is what I thought. Thanks for the info.

  • #16

I would think you would be faster than 55 my 2003 185hp GTX will go 64 as far as the spedo reads.

  • #17

Yep, that's what I thought. They figure it might be the clutch slipping on the supercharger. It tops out at 55 but is turning 8150 rpm. Good thing it has warranty and the BRP dealer did the 10 hour service. Bad thing is I have to drive 5.5 hours to get it looked at again.

  • #19

I have a gps. Thought about checking it against speedo, but with everyone saying on their speedo they are seeing in the 65-70 mph range, I figure my speedo should be showing the same. I realize that actual speed with be a few mph slower on the gps, (2-5+?).

With 2/3 throttle all I get is 55. The last 1/3 of the throttle, there is no change. I will try to check it though.

  • #20

At 2/3 throttle, you're seeing 8150?

No wonder you're not seeing any difference with the last 1/3 of your throttle....you're on the limiter, maybe.....the newer skis run higher I thought......Your oil level.....half way between the bends on a warmed up motor?....dealers are notorious for over-filling.

Now...how fast are you really going?.....I find it odd that your sc is slipping after only 10 hrs. You've checked your wear ring....prop.....pump....no debris?

@Honker
Have a few questions for you, when you hit WOT from a standstill, does your ski launch and feel like its going to leave you behind if you dont hang on? Take the GPS out with you and do a speed test, it could be that your speedo unit is bad as well.

Haven't been back to the forum in a while since its been out of season, at least for us up in Michigan.

Would a different impeller/grate give me any more top end at all? I know you sacrifice top end for bottom end a vice versa. Any experience?

You could check out pump mods like a wedge or extension, along with an impeller upgrade.
