What is the sensor next to the thermostat housing?

Many cars have more than one coolant temperature sensor. In most cars, the primary ECT sensor (ECT sensor 1) is installed near the thermostat in the cylinder head or block or on the thermostat housing. A second coolant temperature sensor could be installed in another part of the engine, or in the radiator.

                                      What is a water neck?

The water neck helps to hold the vehicle's thermostat in place as it opens and closes to regulate the flow of coolant through your engine. The opening in the water neck created by the thermostat allows coolant to flow from the radiator back to the engine.

How long do thermostat housings last?

But, just how long will a thermostat last? They generally last about 10 years but can last longer depending on the make, model, and type of thermostat. Over time, these systems start to age and a thermostat may malfunction because of normal wear and tear, dust accumulation, wiring issues, and rusting.

Do I need to replace my thermostat housing?

How do I know if my thermostat housing needs to be replaced? If the thermostat housing gets broken, it can cause the coolant to leak and damage of the thermostat itself. A coolant leak can lead to bad cooling and overheating, because of it the thermostat wears out. This overheating can lead to several other problems.
