What is a Tri Tip?

Tri Tip is a triangular shape cut of beef from the sirloin subprimal. The Tri Tip is known as a lean cut and good cut of meat with its rich flavor, tender texture, and less expensive price tag.

How do I get the Tri-Tip ready before cooking?

First, you will want to remove the fat from the bottom of the Tri Tip roast. Take a sharp knife and cut the fatty bottom off of the roast. Once you have the fat cut from the roast, you are ready to get started.

Ingredients Needed:

  • Tri Tip Roast (2 1/2 – 3lbs)
  • beef broth
  • garlic powder
  • onion powder
  • ground black pepper
  • olive oil

Once you’ve cooked the Tri Tip, potatoes, and carrots, it’s time to make the gravy. Remove the roast and vegetables from the Instant Pot and leave the liquid. Turn the Instant Pot onto the saute function again and then add 1 1/2 tablespoons of cornstarch to the drippings. Use a whisk and stir continuously until this delicious gravy is smooth and as thick as desired.

How long do you cook 3 pounds of meat in an instant pot?

In general, you will need twenty minutes of cooking time at pressure for every pound of meat. So, a 3-pound roast takes 60 minutes at high pressure before it is tender. You can see from our photos that we added baby potatoes to the pot, too.

Why is my roast tough in instant pot?

If your roast is tough in the Instant Pot, it likely needs to be cooked longer. Chuck roast will become more tender the longer it cooks, so extra time may be needed. However, you can overcook beef in the Instant Pot, so keep an eye on it if you add extra time.

How long does it take to cook a 3 pound tri

On stovetop, heat on high until pan is very hot, then add tri-tip, fat side down. Turn heat to medium-high and sear roast for about 4 minutes. Turn the roast and put it in the oven. Cook it for about 10 minutes a pound, checking with an instant-read thermometer until it reaches 130 degrees for medium-rare.

For this special Slow-Cooker Pot Roast, I recommend a Beef Round Roast or a Tri Tip Roast. You can also use a Chuck Roast, or pretty much any roast you like. The beauty of cooking grass-fed meat in the slow-cooker is that you have hours and hours for the meat to become tender.
