He travels a lot as a "crop inspector" for a large organic food company and now needs new brake pads. The Tire Rack has advised him that AKEBONO Pro-Act ceramic pads would be excellent replacement pads for his SUV. Just like no two people and their driving skills in the same vehicle are exactly the same nor are anyone's vehicles the same as anyone else when replacing or upgrading brake components! LOL Brake pad recommendation, needed and honest answers to questions, Other wise I recomend only to get OEM replacements This often comes up on forums and a who's who of members chime in with what they use not understanding that every vehicle is different as well the driver. The question needing answering for basic information to start to get a better idea of suggestions for a specific brake pad compound are as follows: Year, make, model of vehicle and m,mileage Driving experience level!!!!!!!! Meaning do you have any Driver advance driving skills from a Driving school? Do you have a few years of ROAD TRACK racing experience? Give me a few more minutes I am sure I can complete this with a few question I could remember off the top of my head! LOL . LOL REALLY ! Its not about right or wrong it is advise after knowing exactly what is needed ? To answer your question you would need to ask your nephew how they determined that recommendation for him personally! I run Ferodo DS2500 H on a street car my 02 MCS. You can hear my braking 2 blocks away. The rotors fry down in less then a few thousand mils but I literally can stop on a dime From 100MPH! LOL That sir is a street car not even Track. LOL Would I recomend that to anyone driving on the street .... not a chance in this life time! LOL You on the other hand go answer as many as the questions as you
can and I can give you the best recommendation based on my experience and how you answer the questions. Other wise what is your point to compare other's specifically what was recomend to your Nephew for what you need on your MAZDA? BTW.... the first suggestive pad replacement for your nephews MAZDA is the first one that comes up in the TIRE Rack type in your vehicle for results ... LOL However specifically the company AKEBONO is respect and a high quality supplier of brake components! I use and have used them over the years. Last edited by Callisto; 08-30-2020 at 12:14 PM. Reason: choice 08-23-2020, 07:28 PMJoin Date: Oct 2018 Location: Northern California Posts: 2,028 NOT A RECOMMENDATION only what I am planning to use on my personal MAZDA! Generally speaking and for my MAZDA on the REAR only I prefer Stop Tech or Centric. I have a set of Centric sitting waiting to go on . They are a little dirty on the wheel but when they get
hot they are sticky and predictable. The front I did have the same in mind but that changed last week with something a little more aggressive. I have not posted in in my thread yet! 08-23-2020, 07:34 PMJoin Date: Oct 2018 Location: Northern California Posts: 2,028 Honestly
with what I know about you and your MAZDA so far you should get the Stop Tech or Centric! Senior Member Thread Starter Join Date: Aug 2019 Location: Henderson, NV Posts: 129 OK C, I'll tell him to talk to Tire Rack and see what they say about dust, durability, noise and stopping distance relative to the very good OEM pads. I do know a few magazine test reports said the brake pedal feel was a bit soft initially but stopping distance was decent. Aftermarket brake pads, even the highest quality ones, have been to be shown to be no better to corrosion than the OEM pads. I have no problem recommending to him to stay with the OEM pads. JR, my nephew, is a "average" driver, not an enthusiast as in autocrosser or tuner. I think The Tire Rack is selling these AKEBONO SUV brake pads for THAT average person. Join Date: Oct 2018 Location: Northern California Posts: 2,028 Sometime I think you don't read what a couple of try to help you with? That's ok I am getting use to you. Besides like I said I now about your MAZDA ,at least what you have posted so far. I might also say I know what you are DIY capable of which I have to tell you I have more confidence then you in yourself for doing projects. LOL AKEBONO for your nephew is fine. It is as close to OEM specification for noise and low dust as you can get and it is a top brand. For you Litehiker, if you want to improve the brake feel (the soft feeling pedal was actually an engineered feature) change both front and rear caliper hoses to a full set of Stop Tech Stainless Braided Brake Lines. You will think you have a whole new braking system! And the 60- 0 MPH or braking distance is well withing acceptable for its class. If you can think and stop in less then 160 feet your are doing good. I don't know many street drivers that test this... I do have a gauge that can measure it but even I would abuse my car just to see. hahaha! 08-24-2020, 02:37 AMJoin Date: May 2012 Location: Queensland Australia Posts: 6,787 My 2 cents, stick with Genuine Mazda brake pads. 08-24-2020, 01:43 PMSenior Member Thread Starter Join Date: Aug 2019 Location: Henderson, NV Posts: 129 grim_reaper, I think you're right. Cal, I was debating about braided stainless steel brake lines to replace the OEM "rubber" lines. I'll check out the labor cost today. Last edited by Litehiker; 08-24-2020 at 01:45 PM.
