Fudge recipe with chocolate chips and sweetened condensed milk

The possibilities with this fudge are endless. You can use any flavor of chocolate chips you want. Use a different flavor of extract for a new twist. Mint extract is a favorite around our house. Stir in nuts, coconut or candies to fit your taste.

  • 3 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk (14 ounce can)
  • 1/2 cup butter, cut into pieces
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup coconut, walnuts, M & Ms, crushed Andes mints, peanut butter chips, marshmallows (optional)

In a microwave safe bowl, melt chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk and butter. Microwave for 1 1/2 minutes, just until melted.

Add extract and stir until smooth and creamy.

Mix in any extra items or leave it plain.

Spread mixture into a wax paper lined square baking pan.

Refrigerate for several hours and then remove from pan and cut into bite size squares.

Fudge recipe with chocolate chips and sweetened condensed milk

Absolutely Gorgeous! made these for my family a week ago, went down an absolute treat! about to make another batch!

Ingredients

Method

20cm square tin, lined with baking parchment

Step 1 of 4

Watch our easy chocolate fudge recipe video before you get started!

Step 2 of 4

Break or chop the chocolate into small chunks and place in a non-stick saucepan with the condensed milk. Melt the ingredients gently over a low-medium heat, stirring occasionally until smooth and silky. (You can also melt it in the microwave in 10-20 second bursts, stirring frequently).

For a rich and deeply chocolatey flavour, use dark chocolate with our Easy Chocolate Fudge recipe. Milk and white chocolate will still work, however it will result in a softer consistency and a sweeter flavour.

Step 3 of 4

Press the fudge into the tin and smooth over the top with the back of a spoon.

Want to create a truly unique treat? Try customising your chocolate fudge recipe by adding in nuts, dried fruit or finishing with edible glitter or sugar decorations.

Step 4 of 4

Chill in the fridge for 1 hour or until set, then cut it into squares.

Store the fudge in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two weeks or you can freeze it (the fudge won't 'freeze' solid but it will keep for up to 1 month like this).

Rated 3 out of 5 by Nicola45 from Hard to cut Easy recipe to follow. Left in fridge for around 4 hours. Struggled to cut it straight from the fridge it was so hard. Made the mistake of cutting pieces too big. It is really rich. Now have rectangles not squares. Would not make again as there is far to much

Rated 2 out of 5 by Anonymous from Unhappy Fast and easy, unfortunatelly the texture is not the same with the one shown in your picture, way to much fat.

Is fudge better with condensed milk or evaporated milk?

Unfortunately, you cannot use evaporated milk instead of condensed milk in fudge. You can substitute evaporated milk for regular milk in many instances, but it will not give the same rich, creamy taste that you get from the sweetened condensed milk.

What is the secret to perfect fudge?

The trick to good homemade fudge is to cook the ingredients to the right temperature to form a sugar syrup, and cool the mixture properly so the texture of the fudge turns out smooth and firm, but soft enough to cut.

Does fudge made with sweetened condensed milk need to be refrigerated?

The fudge will stay good at room temperature for up to 3 days. If kept in the fridge, the fudge will stay good for up to 5 days.

How do you fix fudge with condensed milk?

To fix oily, hard or grainy fudge, scoop the fudge back into a pot with about a cup of water. Cook it over low heat until the fudge dissolves. Then bring the fudge back up to the temperature specified in the recipe and follow the remaining steps. The flavor may be slightly diluted, but the texture will be improved.
